Now you can buy Insta360’s flagship action camera with an instant printer and an extra grip – yes, really

  • Insta360 introduces new accessories for its flagship Ace Pro 2 action camera
  • These include the photographer’s grip and a detachable instant printer.
  • New Leica lenses and color profiles have also been added to the camera.

Insta360 just gave its flagship Ace Pro 2 action camera a big boost with a slew of new accessories, including a photographer’s grip, three lenses for different styles, and the odd crossover we didn’t know we needed (and probably don’t): an instant clip-on printer. You can see the entire structure in the image above.

Some of the new accessories seem useful, like the new film, ultra-wide and close-up lenses. Following GoPro’s playbook with the Hero 13 Black Lens Mods, a feature I’ve called “the future of action camera design,” users can shoot anamorphic-style clips with the movie lens and focus closer with the close-up lens. I already feel GoPro’s wrath.

And then there’s the Xplorer Grip Pro, a case with a built-in battery and ergonomic grip (see below). These are the kind of accessories that Chinese phone brands have released in recent years to improve the grip of their phones for photography, such as the excellent Xiaomi 15 Ultra Camera Set.

It’s clear that Insta360 wants the Ace Pro 2 to be both a photography tool and an 8K action camera, and for users who want a full-fledged action camera, this makes a lot of sense.

The special addition, however, is the detachable pocket printer, which Insta360 says is “the first printer designed for an action camera, providing instant, unforgettable memories of every moment.” It automatically prints 3-inch laminated photos (54 x 82 mm, with a printable area of 54 x 72 mm) using dye sublimation technology, which Insta360 says “matches the vivid images of the Ace Pro 2” and is water, dust and light resistant.

I don’t normally associate action cameras with photography, let alone taking moving snapshots. I have this accessory on “don’t use it until you try it.”

Exaggeration or genius?

Between GoPro, DJI and the latest Insta360 action cameras, I think the Hero Black 13’s interchangeable lenses are the most exciting step forward for action cameras, even more so than the 8K video capability of the Ace Pro 2. Thanks to three new lenses, each directly inspired by (or imitating) GoPro, you can now get both with the Insta360 model.

I wouldn’t necessarily consider using the Ace Pro 2 for stills, as its strength is undoubtedly in video. But handling the camera while shooting will be improved with the new grip, and Leica’s new color profiles will certainly help achieve a strong, print-ready look right out of the camera.

As far as the printing press is concerned, no decision has been made yet. I like Instax Mini Link printers for printing on the go, but I wouldn’t take them on outdoor adventures.

Several Ace Pro 2 packages are now available with these new accessories; The XPlorer Pro package includes the new handle and an extra battery and costs $519.99. The Flash Print bundle also includes the pocket printer, a flip case and a classic leather case for $579.99 / £545 / A$1049. The Ultimate Videography bundle also includes the three new lenses and costs $739.99 / £725 / A$1359. If you don’t want all three, there are other single lens packages. All packs will be available immediately upon launch starting November 12th.
