- Perplexity’s virtual try-on lets you see clothes in a digital avatar created from your photo
- The tool realistically shows how fabrics fall and fit, making online shopping more accurate.
- The feature is fast and is now available for Pro and Max users.
If you’ve ever wondered if the jacket you’re looking at really fits you, Perplexity now has the answer. As part of the new shopping tools, the company has just launched a new virtual try-on feature that creates a digital twin of your photos and shows you wearing real clothes from online stores.
Forget about ordering clothes online and finding they don’t track you. Now you can try them virtually as a first step.
Google offers a similar feature in its Shopping AI Wallet, but I decided to see how Perplexity works because it looks like it could be a lot more useful to you if you’re shopping for clothes today.
Today we are offering a virtual trial for all Perplexity Pro and Max subscribers. Upload a photo to create your digital avatar and try on clothes virtually while shopping at Perplexity. pic.twitter.com/DwaYPUTgoqNovember 26, 2025
To create my virtual model, I uploaded a selfie to Perplexity. He used it as a head and then offered to put my head on a generic body that didn’t fit my current build.
The other option was to upload a photo of my entire body to use. Once I found and uploaded a suitable image, Perplexity created a digital avatar in my shape.
Then all I had to do was use the “Shopping” tab to find the various clothing items I was looking for. For example, a winter coat. There I could click on a possible purchase and the “Try It” button appeared.
When I clicked on it, a photo of my avatar appeared on it within a minute, taking into account my posture, body shape and how the fabric hugs my limbs. I was impressed.
The Doubt Cabinet
I found the testing tool very effective in reinventing myself with different garments, but one garment at a time. A full suit never required a button to fit, although some interesting jackets worked.
Even limiting myself to individual parts did not mean that everything I was looking for was suitable for digital proofing. The suit never seemed to reveal the button.
As a further experiment, I asked Perplexity to use only my head and entire body for one of the props. This was a good selling point for the full body photo.
Google’s approach is arguably more flexible and efficient when it comes to handling entire costumes and outfits. But google is taking much longer than Perplexity to complete its parade.
If you just want a quick estimate of how you will look with e.g. a T-shirt with an incredibly bright rainbow chevron pattern, then Perplexity is for you and will hopefully save you an even more incredible price.
Please note that you must be a user to use the Try Perplexity feature. Professional memberand costs $20 per month.
my review
Overall, Perplexity’s testing tool is fast, surprisingly accurate, and very useful when purchasing individual items. It still can’t compete with Google’s ability to see entire outfits, but if speed is more important than stylish lookbooks, Perplexity wins. Just be willing to pay for the privilege.
