It might be another day before Valve’s next VR headset hits the market, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

  • Valve’s next VR headset is expected to launch this week, possibly on November 12.
  • The device is known as Steam Frame, formerly Valve Deckard.
  • It could be released alongside some great new first-party games.

Update: New leaked images of the Steam Frame have been released, along with a controller and a new Steam Machine, further raising hopes of an upcoming official announcement.

The original story continues with the BlueSky publication.

Here we go again. Rumor has it that Valve’s upcoming Steam Frame headset, also called Deckard in leaks, will be announced very soon. Tomorrow, November 12th, to be exact.

is the other Unfortunately, it’s Bradley. (a reliable source of XR-related leaks) that he shared on his Discord (via r/ValveDeckard) that Valve’s headphones could be unveiled “this week, specifically Wednesday,” according to “some sources.”

Before we delve further into this leak, I would like to say that “public rumors should be treated with caution”, and that goes two ways.

While this seems like a smoke-and-mirrors situation (there are so many Steam Frame leaks that it seems almost guaranteed we’ll see it sooner or later), this isn’t the first time Deckard is expected to debut. A few months ago, you may have seen the internet buzzing with speculation after several VR influencers shared details about their participation in an event with Valve in Seattle.

However, this release date designation seems a little different. Last but not least, Valve gave up on the technology before this time of year: with the Steam Deck OLED 2023, which launched on November 16.

It’s also right before the Christmas season, which is again a common release date for gaming tech, with the hope that this will be the number one gift on everyone’s wish list for Santa.

It’s definitely on my list and I’m personally inclined to see it released soon, but as excited as I am to see Deckard finally released, I’m not holding my breath: I’ve been burned too many times this year by the XR release date leak.

Steam Deck would inspire Steam Frame

What can we expect from Steam Frame when it releases?

As we’ve explained in previous stories, the device is expected to be a standalone VR headset like the Meta Quest 3, but it could also be used to play PC games, connect to intense PC VR titles, and/or run less intense games locally as a portable Steam Deck.

It has also been suggested that there could be two models, like the Steam Deck, one cheaper and one with improved specs at a higher cost (think bigger storage, maybe an OLED screen).

Speaking of cost, several rumors put the price at around $1,200 (around £900/AUD1,850). It sits almost squarely between the Meta Quest 3 and the new Samsung Galaxy XR headphones, and it certainly isn’t cheap.

However, given the latest leak, UnfortunatelyItsBradley added that Valve “needs a week or two to explain the device,” which could indicate that the high cost makes it a complex PC gaming device with more utility than you might expect.

While this could also be a nod to other Valve announcements regarding controllers and games that Frame is expected to release together, when it comes to Valve software it’s hard to separate real leaks from pipe dreams (I’ve seen too many jokes). Half-life 3 I think we are in 2025).

We’ll have to wait and see what Valve has in store. I hope we don’t have to wait long.
