- Messages may appear on ChatGPT in the near future
- The related text was detected in the ChatGPT application.
- It is unclear how these ads would work or appear.
We know that generating text, images, and videos via AI isn’t cheap every day, and it looks like the inevitable is about to happen: a new rumor suggests that OpenAI is testing ads on ChatGPT before making it fully available to users.
How it was discovered @btibor91 (Above BeepTeam), the latest ChatGPT app for Android contains hidden code that refers to an “ad feature”, “bazaar content”, “search ad” and “search ad carousel”, so it’s clear what’s coming.
It is not clear when and how OpenAI will decide to introduce ads in chats, nor if paying a subscription is enough to hide them. Based on the current interface style of the ChatGPT app, including the new store search feature, we expect them to be unobtrusive and fit well with ChatGPT’s current aesthetic.
In fact, OpenAI has already said that screens should be “thoughtful and tasteful” if they’re going to be used, which is almost certainly true given the cost of running all those GPUs and data centers.
Ads with your artificial intelligence

It’s really no surprise that ads appear on ChatGPT. The move has been planned for some time and would put the chatbot on par with other artificial intelligence offerings, something that Google and Microsoft, for example, have already tested.
If we are going to support advertising, it must at least be specific and relevant: the AI apps that many of us chat with every day have access to a wealth of information about our likes, dislikes and interests, all of which can be used to generate advertising links that are relevant to a user’s current wants and suggestions.
AI-powered searches are an obvious place to start, because if you’re looking for something to buy online, you might be interested in a sponsored link or two. However, OpenAI must ensure that the ad content is different from the usual responses from AI bots.
ChatGPT just turned three years old yesterday, November 30th, but its user base has quickly grown to hundreds of millions of people, and there are plenty of eyes to even see the announcement. There have also been rumors of price increases on season tickets, but these have yet to materialise.
