- Dali launches Sonik floor. Floor. Wall. Cinema speakers
- They use the treble. Diaphragm technology in Dali’s advanced models
- 7 styles. From $900 / £449 / AU$849
Danish music master Dali is on a roll: the company has just introduced a new line of affordable audiophile speakers. Has just launched the super-affordable Dali Kupid five-star bookshelf speakers. The new speaker series is called Sonik. Speaker enthusiasts will no doubt notice that this series replaces the Oberon speaker range which has become a modern classic.
The new Sonik series includes seven models: Sonik 1. Sonik 3 stands. Sonik 5. 7. 9 floorstanding speakers. Sonik On-Wall. Sonik Cinema speakers.
According to Dali. These new speakers offer “a significant step up in detail. Dynamics. Musicality” in price compared to the award-winning Oberon range. And prices start at a competitive £449 / $900 / AUS$849 for the Sonik 1. So there really is a big difference in affordability depending on whether you’re in the US. Overseas.
How are you. Sonic?
“Don’t turn your back” in this case means the introduction of seven different models:
- Sonic 1 – £449. $900. AU$849
- Sonic 3 – £599. $1200. AU$1199
- Sonic 5 – £899. $1800. AU$1749
- Sonic 7 – £1299. $2800. AU$2549
- Sonic 9 – £2. 199. $4. 500. AUD$4. 099
- SONIC INSERT – £599. $1200. AU$1149
- SONIC CINEMA – £449. $900. AU$859
Dali says these speakers are designed for two types of listeners: “the seasoned audiophile”. The “design-minded novice entering the world of hi-fi audio.”
One of the positive aspects of the Oberon range is that it is a very flexible. Simple set of speakers. Both in terms of placement. Sources. Pedersen says this principle is also an important part of Sonik’s design.
“One of our design principles is that we are not picky (with regard to music types. Sources). Also what we call the usability of the amplifier. Basically, we have no control over people’s taste in music and we have no control over the choice of electronics. That’s why we have to be agnostic. ” says Pedersen.
“Also. People’s rooms are different. So it’s really important that they work in real-world situations. Where you don’t have to build the system.
The room around the speakers. You can take the speakers. Put them into the existing setup.”
The Sonik series inherits a number of improvements from the flagship Kore. Epikore. Epicon series. Including improved transducer designs. Advanced magnetic technology. Refined packaging technology.
The drivers feature Dali’s ultra-lightweight 29mm soft dome tweeter. Designed for low loss. Wide dispersion. This tweeter is paired with two variants of Clarity Cone low-loss midrange and bass drivers. Sonik 7. Sonik 9 also benefit from the combination of a 29mm dome tweeter with a 17 x 45mm planar magnetostatic tweeter. Which promises dynamic precision. Extended high-frequency performance.
“This is the first time in this segment that we are introducing the so-called hybrid tweeter technology. A combination of planar. Dome magnetic sound. ” adds Pedersen. “It’s very unique. One of our R&D engineers said. ‘Wow. It’s like a little Epikore 7. Quite a statement in terms of performance.
The Sonik range includes the SMC Essential Magnet system is is by which. Which first appeared in the Epicon range. Is also part of what made the Oberon system so versatile. Designed to “dramatically” reduce third-order harmonic distortion. Sonik promises significantly better performance for its price.
Dali also added a new design to its cones that incorporated more technology than the high-end speakers. Pedersen says this model was particularly ideal for more price-conscious speakers.
“This pentahedral pattern on the cone that’s printed facilitates ways to split up the control nodes of the diaphragm. And it’s actually almost a free technology, because you take the existing cone and once you have the pattern, you print it. So it’s something that we (Epikore) could introduce without having any real impact on cost. Because after all. With a line like Sonic. We have some cost constraints.”
The picture is completed by dual-flash bass reflex ports. Optimized for sync. Low turbulence. Clean low-frequency extension. The On-Wall. Cinema models have special reflex ports on both the wall. The front.
Pederson also shared that the Cinema speaker is designed less as a simple center channel speaker. More as part of a true LCR system.
If that’s your preference: it has a three-way configuration. Like two floor-standing midrange speakers. So it can deliver power. Sound to match.
Visually. These include custom-designed magnet grilles. Aluminum faceplates for the tweeter. New proprietary connectors. Updated logo badges. Baffles inspired by the Epikore range. Aluminum spike arms on the floor-standing speakers. Four versions: black ash. Walnut. Natural oak.
