Thanksgiving is right around the corner, which means Black Friday brings some great deals; In fact, there are already many discounts available on devices like the Ray-Ban Metas.
If you settle for a discount on the latest generation model, you can buy Ray-Ban Meta glasses at their lowest price ever: that is, basic clear or gradient glasses cost only $238.99 on Amazon (starting at $299), although I would pick one Transition pair at $303.20 (from $379).
Those of you looking for second-generation Ray-Ban or Oakley glasses, like the HSTN or Vanguard glasses, are out of luck… or you’ll miss out on the trade-in deal that Meta is testing.
If you go to add AI glasses to your cart (unfortunately, Ray-Ban Meta display glasses are not eligible for the trade-in offer), you can go to your cart and you’ll see the option to trade in a unit for a discount.
Public Service Announcement: Meta offers deals! (Currently) Of r/RaybanMeta
According to the meta rules, the unit must be fully functional and units that can be traded in are:
- Ray-Ban Meta (first generation)
- Apple airpods Pro2
- Apple AirPods 4
- Apple AirPods3
- Better than Powerbeats Pro 2
- Beats Studio Buds+
- Beats FitPro
- Samsung Galaxy Buds3
- Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro
- Samsung Galaxy Buds3 FE
As this is a pilot project, some users may notice inconsistencies in the system. This means that users have to check different browsers on different devices before trade-in offers appear, and when they do appear, people see different trade-in costs.
For example, in the Reddit post above, you see people being offered up to $113 for their Ray-Ban Gen 1 glasses, while our sister site Android Center A loan of $122 was reportedly offered.
Who needs AirPods anyway?
Meta has been known to offer deals that were not visible to all users, such as some Meta Quest software sales. So this may be a repeat of this tactic, but since this is a pilot program, the company may not have wanted to offer the deal to all users who shop on their site.
It remains to be seen if this pilot will also become permanent. For the lucky few who can see the deal, it is scheduled to close on December 31st and it is likely that depending on the success or failure of the pilot, Meta will decide to extend the exchange agreement or abandon it altogether.
If you don’t see the trade-in offer, like I mentioned earlier, you can still find deals on Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 glasses.
I gave them four stars in my review of the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, and then they were full price. Yes, the second generation model is better and it makes sense to spend more money on transitions as they are much more versatile than permanent clear or gradient lenses, but at 20% off these glasses are a real treat thanks to their nice first-person camera, solid open-ear audio and helpful AI assistant.
