Motorola is announcing something big for CES: could it be the cheap foldable tablet of my dreams?

Next year is just around the corner and with it comes CES, the world’s largest annual technology trade show, where many big brands will be showing off what they think will be the next big thing. Sometimes they have no choice but to screw up their own ads. An example of this is Motorola’s broad invitation to CES, which hints at the launch of a Motorola Fold phone.

Motorola already makes foldable devices (the foldable Motorola Razr line), but the company has yet to offer us a foldable device in the form of a book. This seems to change when we consider two key points in the invitation (via Android Center).

The first is a note that reads: “We are preparing to open new horizons.” This suggests that Motorola is working on a new foldable model.

A foldable phone in the shape of a book would make a lot of sense, as this is the other regular foldable phone model we’ve seen among Motorola’s competitors, but to add to the speculation, the invite includes a lamp that opens like a book and unfolds illuminated pages to reveal the design.

As with all developments, we have to take the speculation with a grain of salt (it’s very easy to misinterpret Motorola’s proposal), but a new foldable phone that could compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 makes too much sense for the tech brand not to get a little excited, as it’s a very real possibility.

Especially since Motorola specializes in cheaper foldables than its competitors, although the company also makes high-quality foldables.

Foldable phones have always been quite expensive (the Z Fold 7 costs $1,999.99 / £1,799 / AU$2,899), but Motorola can offer a solid alternative at a lower price. We’re still expecting a Motorola Fold to cost upwards of $1,000 / £1,000 / AU$2,000, but I expect it to fall somewhere between that amount and the Z Fold 7, perfect for people who don’t want to spend a fortune but want a tablet-sized screen that folds into their pocket.

I love foldable devices like the Z Fold 7, but I admit they are very expensive.

We’ll be at CES to cover the latest local news. Then check back in early January for the big tech news in early 2026.
