If you miss the days when you could buy a portable console that was also a phone, like the Xperia Play and N-Gage, then there’s probably a new phone you’ll probably be interested in.

Ayaneo, known for making retro handheld consoles, is all set to launch its first Android phone called the Pocket Play and the company has now revealed the design of the device.

Unlike today’s top gaming phones, which still largely have touchscreens, this one has a full set of physical buttons in addition to a touchscreen.

This design probably means that the Ayaneo Pocket Play is a bit bulky, but it certainly takes up less space than carrying a smartphone and a portable console. So if you are one of those people, this could be an interesting option.

No information on specifications

Unfortunately, we don’t know much about it yet: there are no specs, pricing, or even a release date beyond the “coming soon” statement. Kickstarter. But that will probably only be if you can receive it, so it will probably be a while before it actually ships.

And while it’s certainly a niche market, it’s nice to see some variation between smartphones, rather than all being virtually identical devices.
