The dream – or nightmare – of a humanoid robot in the home is approaching. HE Neo house robot by 1X, a home assistant that can clean, dance, listen, speak and help, is now available for pre-order. It is ready to enter homes and can also be plugged into a wall outlet if needed.

Just over a year after the presentation of Neo Beta and nine months after that of Neo Gamma, 1X presents its Neo Home Robot.

Visually, Neo has evolved significantly: we left Neo Beta with its overly tactile arm (wrapped around a human companion in the demos). Now let’s talk about a soft-touch robot, with a friendly face (but no mouth), covered in fabric, 1.68 m tall and weighing 30 kg.

On the feet, a soft and modern sneaker worthy of Allbird sneaker enthusiasts. With two round LED rings on your head, you can express your intentions. But you can do it just as easily… by talking.

According to the 1X and the introductory video, the Neo Home Robot has four microphones for listening and three speakers for answering. It works thanks to an internal artificial intelligence called Redwood AI, powered by Nvidia chips. According to 1X, Redwood AI is “a vision-to-speech transformer designed for humanoid forms, capable of performing end-to-end mobile manipulations such as retrieving objects, opening doors, or navigating around the house.”

That is, an artificial intelligence specially designed for home use.

In the presentation video, the Neo Home Robot performs various household tasks: washing clothes, emptying the dishwasher, vacuuming. However, some tasks remain out of reach, such as mowing the lawn (the device is not intended for outdoor use) or cooking (at least not yet). The movable rubber hands are waterproof, but the washable, cloth-covered case is not.

In the FAQ, 1X jokes: “If your NEO gets wet, it will automatically order a plastic kiddie pool and 100 kg of basmati rice*. *Just kidding, but be careful your NEO doesn’t get wet.” » Smart, 1X.

Due for delivery in 2026, this robot represents a significant investment: $20,000 cash or a $499 monthly subscription. This is not a credit: the subscription is valid as long as the user wants to keep the robot.

The Californian company 1X promises total autonomy, with artificial intelligence that can analyze the environment and interact, as in the video where Neo helps find a pair of glasses hanging from the collar of his shirt.

But to plan all these activities, you need the right application. “For recurring routines, the user can schedule missions through the 1X mobile app,” the FAQ said. The internet connection is via 5G or WiFi (the latter is recommended by 1X).

Not all activities are covered. The company offers support for new tasks: a 1X employee can temporarily take control of the robot to train it without saving collected personal data. The robot can climb stairs, but 1X does not indicate if it can also descend stairs. Should it be taken down?

The advertised battery life is 4 hours. When the battery is empty, Neo can be plugged into a standard wall outlet to charge it. If only everyone could do the same.

From a safety perspective, 1X shows how the robot communicates or dances with its owners, but images of physical contact are gone.

“Safety guided every step of NEO’s development so that it could function in the presence of humans,” the FAQ states. “This includes a full range of active and passive safety features. The NEO must be used correctly for its function. It is important to remain alert and follow all safety instructions when using it, especially around children, vulnerable people or animals.”

These warnings are noteworthy, especially since the video suggests that it is possible to leave the house while Neo is cleaning. What happens if something falls, gets stuck or falls over? Fortunately, the app lets you see what the robot sees thanks to its two 8MP fisheye cameras. Although watching the robot perform tasks we wanted to avoid could quickly lose its appeal.

This isn’t the first home robot to be mentioned this year. A few weeks ago, Figura AI introduced Figura 03, another housekeeper with a passion for laundry. Unlike the Neo Home Robot, Figure 03 is not directly aimed at the general public.

The character’s AI was then able to observe Neo’s success (or failure) in 2026 before launching his own humanoid assistant.
