OpenAI and Walmart will soon offer AI shopping ChatGPTThe retail giant made the announcement on Tuesday.
ChatGPT’s instant payment feature allows customers to purchase groceries, electronics or other essential items through the chatbot interface.
Walmart has its own AI assistant in its app called Sparkling. Sparky allows customers to ask product questions and get review summaries to find the best item.
“For years, online shopping experiences consisted of a search bar and a long list of item responses. That will soon change,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said in a statement. “There will be a native, multimedia, personal and contextual AI experience. With Sparky and through partnerships, including this milestone with OpenAI, we are moving towards a more enjoyable and convenient future.”
When reached for comment, a Walmart spokesperson said the company would not discuss the financial terms of the deal.
“We’re excited to work with Walmart to make everyday shopping a little easier. This is just one of the ways AI will help people every day as we work together,” Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said in a statement.
The deal with Walmart comes as OpenAI aims to make ChatGPT an all-in-one shopping experience. AI-powered chatbots are increasingly being used as a way to shop online. You can add reviews online and give people instant answers to their shopping questions. ChatGPT now connects with Etsy and Shopify Immediate payment Feature that allows people to buy instantly. OpenAI has also added more shopping features to the ChatGPT search Early this year.
