0

Despite the steep cost and somewhat restricted adjustability, the HP E45c G5 offers a uniquely engaging user experience. This is largely due to its expansive ultrawide curved display that envelops the user. It’s particularly beneficial for those who need to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously, whether from dual sources or across multiple windows for a more efficient process.

Advantages

Disadvantages

The HP E45c G5, a 44.5-inch ultrawide monitor, provides a unique user experience. Its high cost and large footprint may deter some, but for those who value an immersive media experience and the ability to view multiple tabs or windows simultaneously, it’s a game-changer.

If your priorities are 4K resolution or flawless color accuracy for editing tasks, you might want to consider other options. While the HP E45c G5 doesn’t disappoint in these areas, its strengths lie more in providing an immersive experience and facilitating a spread-out workflow.

If you’re reading this, you’re likely in search of a top-tier ultrawide monitor. In that case, the HP E45c G5 is a contender.

HP E45C G5: Cost and Availability

What’s the price? $1,099 / £959.99 / AU$2,045 When can you buy it? It’s currently available Where can you purchase it? It’s accessible in the US, UK, and Australia The HP E45c G5’s price, while substantial, is justifiable given its unique offering. It caters to a specific market segment that prefers the expansive screen space of dual monitors but in a more consolidated setup.

Viewed from this angle, the price seems reasonable. Most good-quality monitors will cost around $400 to $500 each, so buying two would equate to the cost of the HP E45c G5. However, this would require two power outlets and wouldn’t provide the seamless ultrawide screen experience.

In terms of competition of a similar size, the prices are comparable or even higher. For example, the Corsair Xeneon Flex 45WQHD240 OLED, which boasts a larger OLED display and a faster 240Hz refresh rate, is priced at $1,999.99 / £2,099.99 / AU$3,299.99.

Alternatively, consider the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9, which has a similar aspect ratio and resolution but features an OLED display, hence the higher price tag of $2,199.99 / £1,599 / AU$3,399. The only way to match HP’s price point is to opt for an older non-OLED model or a smaller size.

HP E45C G5: Structure and Characteristics

The HP E45c G5’s design is noteworthy, particularly due to its size. The 44.5-inch VA panel is designed to eliminate the need for dual monitors. The 1500R curvature enhances the viewing experience, making it more natural. The screen can be split between two sources or expanded for a single source, without the interruption of bezels.

The single-panel solution does have its drawbacks. For instance, it doesn’t offer the same level of ergonomic flexibility as two separate monitors. The HP monitor’s ergonomics are somewhat limited, with a 10-degree swivel in either direction, a 5-degree downward tilt, and a 20-degree upward tilt. However, it does offer a significant height adjustment of around 8 inches.

The HP E45c G5’s base, while large, occupies less space than two monitors would. It also features basic cable management to keep your desk neat. Assembling it is straightforward – simply attach the stand to the monitor’s back, attach the base, and lift it from behind.

The monitor offers numerous ports, including three video-capable inputs: HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C. This allows you to split the screen between two sources. The USB-C port can deliver up to 100W of power to one PC, or 65W to two PCs.

Additional ports include another USB-C and a couple of USB-As for peripherals. The monitor also incorporates KVM, making it ideal for multitasking. You can even connect an Ethernet cable to the HP E45c G5.

Lastly, the OSD menu button is located at the far right on the back of the panel, which may require a bit of a stretch to access.

HP E45C G5: Functionality

In terms of functionality, the HP E45c G5 shines. While the large screen only offers 99% sRGB color coverage and lacks DCI-P3 coverage or settings for different color coverages, it’s not the best choice for photo or video editing.

For those not involved in creative work, it’s a joy to use. The dual QHD (5,120 x 1,440) resolution and 165Hz refresh rate make for an immersive gaming and media experience, provided you have a powerful PC to support it.

This monitor isn’t primarily designed for gaming. It’s more suited to those who require ample screen space for their work. This feature is particularly useful for those who need to access and process information from multiple tabs for their work. The monitor also allows windows to snap to various grids for easy organization.

HP has thoughtfully included a pair of 3W speakers. They provide adequate sound for casual use, but for superior audio quality, it’s advisable to pair this monitor with high-quality speakers. This holds for most monitors tested, and the integrated speakers add to the overall experience.
