design
The Everboom is slightly smaller than the midpoint of Ultimate Ears’ Bluetooth speaker lineup. The compact Wonderboom, cylindrical Boom 4 and Megaboom 4 are smaller options; Epicboom and Hyperboom are larger. The Megaboom 4 is actually taller than the Everboom, but the Everboom is wider and taller overall.
Aesthetically, the Everboom is similar to the Epicboom. It is an oval-cylindrical device with a rubber base. The only difference between the two, other than size, is that the EpicBoom has a strap on the back while the EverBoom has a loop. Use the included carabiner or choose a clip or hook. Also, like all modern UE speakers, the large “+” and “-” buttons are on the outside, and the volume control is on the front of the speaker. The top features power, Bluetooth, Outdoor Boost, and play/pause buttons. Last control also lets you skip tracks by pressing twice (forward) or three times (backward).
Like most modern speakers, the Everboom is very powerful. The IP67-rated device is fully submersible, but you don’t have to worry about it floating on top of the water. UE underlined this issue in its announcement, but it is worth noting that Wonderboom also comes to mind. According to the company, the Everboom has been dropped and tested from a height of 1 meter (about 3 feet), so a casual ride shouldn’t cause any problems other than scratches.
ui boom applications and features
To use EverBoom’s advanced features, you need to access them from the UE Boom app. Once the speaker is connected, the battery status is displayed above the Power, Outdoor Boost, and Megaphone controls in the main interface. In addition to the volume slider, there are also tabs for the media player, party creation, and EQ. Megaphone allows you to make announcements through your phone’s microphone. PartyUp has been the best label for connecting multiple speakers for years. In fact, you can sync up to 150 devices in a single setup as long as they’re Boom, MegaBoom, EpicBoom, or HyperBoom models.
A closer look at the Advanced Settings menu reveals more useful tools. You have the option to add playlists from Amazon Music or Apple Music, so you can play them directly from the Everboom’s play/pause button (press and hold). You can add as many playlists as you want and play them in order without picking up your phone. You can also access the playlist from the in-app media player while playing a set.
There are a few more settings that we will introduce below. Enabling Sticky PartyUp ensures that your speakers remain grouped even if you change their positions. You can also disable others’ ability to add your device to the PartyUp Readiness program. Bluetooth standby is on by default, allowing apps to turn the speaker on or off remotely. However, since this affects battery life, the company offers the option to disable the battery to extend operating time.
sound quality
One of the best things about the Everboom is that the driver position beam provides 360-degree listening. When you sit next to the unit, the music sounds clear, but the tuning favors the treble over the bass. My main complaint about Ultimate Ears speakers is that the company always prioritizes sound quality over fidelity. The speakers sound good overall, and the Everboom is no different, but it lacks the overall depth and detail found on other Bluetooth speakers.
The song feels constantly compressed, with a distinct lack of midrange despite strong highs and sharp lows. The open, atmospheric instrumentals of Nickel Creek’s bluegrass songs and Phantogram’s “Come Alive” often lack clarity. Vocals always sound clean and clear, but the soundscape is limited to two extremes: highs and lows. sausin Live broadcast from Park Amphitheater Everboom is one of the best live albums I can remember, but Everboom’s tuning lacks dynamism, which stifles the energy of the show.
Only Bass Boost in the EQ preset improves things, but not significantly. Unlike most bass-heavy profiles, this doesn’t affect the sound quality much. However, in some genres, such as up-and-coming alternative rock, the added bass can drown out the sustained rhythmic bassline.
Outdoor Boost helps improve the listening experience in wide open spaces. The company says this increases the sound by 1 dB (from 90 dB to 91 dB). However, if you play indoors you will be able to hear subtle tuning changes. But you’ll only notice slightly louder and better sound outside. This feature makes a noticeable difference when you are not indoors and solves the problem of using Bluetooth speakers outdoors.
battery life
Everboom has enough power to keep your songs playing for a long time. Ultimate Ears can last up to 20 hours on a single charge, which is enough to listen to music all day long. After testing, I can safely say that these will outperform these headphones unless you use them at maximum volume for hours (trust me, you won’t do that). After 12 hours, the UE app still showed 70% battery remaining. This test was primarily performed in a fairly large room with a volume of approximately 40%. The company cautioned that I also didn’t notice that waiting for Bluetooth to turn on the speaker in the app affected battery life.
a race
As mentioned before, there are plenty of options in the Ultimate Ears line if you’re looking for similar features in a slightly different package. But my pick is Marshall Middleton ($250). Here are our picks from our list of the best portable Bluetooth speakers for speakers of this price and size. You can now get it for the same price as the Everboom, and it has some useful features that UE speakers don’t offer.
First, there is a joystick control button at the top that provides a visual indication of battery level and volume. You can also adjust the bass and treble on the device, and there’s also a 3.5mm jack for wired input. Of course, it features all the popular Marshall guitar amp styles, and stack mode lets you use multiple units for a more powerful setup. The Middleton is IP67 waterproof and has up to 20 hours of battery life. Both specifications are similar to the Everboom.
Also, don’t sleep with the new Beats Pill ($150). Sure, it’s a small speaker, but it still delivers big sound. Bass performance varies by album and genre, but overall this is great bass from a compact unit. Additionally, the angled drivers provide better sound than previous versions, and there is also the option of lossless tuning via wired USB-C connection. The best part is you’ll save $100!
plural
Overall, Ultimate Ears is a solid choice for the price, but the company’s smaller speakers are a slightly better value. The mid-size offers the best features of UE with a new design that maintains strong resistance to dust, moisture and drops. Any comfort is offset by the deafeningly loud coil, but it lacks any refinement for detailed, immersive listening. The lack of midrange for both powerful treble and deep bass makes the overall sound effect vague and dull. But the fact that the speakers are floating and only have the ability to amplify external sound makes them a good choice for adventures. This will definitely disturb people at the next campsite.
