Apple has delivered its three billionth iPhone, Tim Cook announced during a conference call with the company. The company launched the first iPhone in 2007 and 2016. It reportedly shipped its two billionth iPhone in 2021 and now, four years later, it has reached another milestone. Apple’s CEO said the iPhone had double-digit growth in the third quarter and the company generated $94 billion in revenue, up 10% year over year. In a tweet, Apple expert Mark Gurman suggested that iPhone sales last quarter were driven by people buying one because they feared the device would be out of reach in the future due to Trump’s tariffs.
Speaking of fees, they cost the company $800 million in the quarter that ended in June, Cook said on the call. For the next quarter, which ends in September, Apple expects a price increase It cost the company $1.1 billion..
Apple is expected to unveil its next iPhone models in a few weeks, likely in September, just like last year’s devices. Gurman previously reported that Apple would launch this generation’s iPhone 17 Air, joining the Air models of its other products. It will reportedly be an ultra-thin phone with a single camera lens and powered by a simple A19 chip. The phone may also feature Apple’s internal modem, which debuted with the iPhone 16e, and a 6.6-inch screen. This could cost buyers around $900, roughly $100 more than the base iPhone 16 and in line with the price of the iPhone 16 Plus.
In addition to announcing Apple’s three billionth iPhone, Cook also announced during the conference call that the company will “significantly increase” its investment in artificial intelligence. He said an acquisition to strengthen artificial intelligence and accelerate its roadmap was not out of the question, but he did not name a specific company that Apple could buy.
