If you vacuum corners, corners or stairs, you will appreciate a vacuum cleaner that is light and easy to maneuver. I’m NewForTech’s floor care editor and have tested vacuums of all shapes, sizes and weights, including a recent mega-group test to find the best cordless vacuum on the market.
In my experience, my best recommendation for lightweight vacuum cleaners is the Shark Detect Pro. This vacuum cleaner is incredibly light and very compact – in hand-held mode it is small. Unfortunately, Shark seems to have stopped production unnecessarily, so it’s hard to find, although I did find it. a listing in the US. (Note: Shark has many vacuum cleaners with similar names, so beware of scammers.)
This brings me to my second soft recommendation: the Dreame R20. It’s slightly heavier than the Detect Pro, but still incredibly light, thanks in part to an ultralight carbon fiber shaft. It is also extremely practical and easy to maneuver and offers better cleaning than the Detect Pro.

Shark Detect Pro and Dreame R20: what you need to know
Detect Pro is extremely light and thin, even for a cordless vacuum cleaner. Thanks to the rubber handle and the shape of the handle, handling is also very comfortable. With the main lance and floor nozzles fitted, the Detect Pro and R20 are almost identical in weight, but in handheld mode the Detect Pro is much lighter. This is partly because the trash can is smaller (note: it’s actually quite small and needs to be emptied regularly).
You turn Shark Detect Pro on and off by simply pressing a button on the main body of the machine; It’s not accessible from the handle, so you always have to keep your other hand free, which can be a bit annoying.
This vacuum performed well in my cleaning tests on medium carpets and hard floors, although it struggled with pet hair and deep rugs. In general, the heavier a vacuum, the more suction it has, and I wouldn’t recommend these lightweight vacuums for homes with heavy cleaning needs; There are many options in my ranking of the best vacuum cleaners.
Let’s move on to the Dreame R20. This vacuum cleaner received the best overall rating in my comparison test and is a very powerful all-round vacuum cleaner. It lacks the padding and shape that made the Detect Pro a dream (no pun intended), but the nice thing is that you don’t need to have your hands free to turn it on and off because there’s a trigger. Dreame has also added a button to lock the machine for continuous use when needed.
Cleaning performance was also good and I achieved consistently good results in my suction tests. I was particularly impressed with the mini motorized tool’s ability to remove pet hair from a velvet pillow. A potential benefit is the addition of a second soft brush head that can polish and clean hard floors without the risk of potential scratches.
