  • Surfshark has just launched an AI-based email fraud detection tool
  • Currently, the tool is only available through the Chrome extension.
  • This new development comes at a time when the AAG reports that 3.4 billion pieces of spam are sent every day.

As 183 million Gmail users fear a major password breach, a VPN company is taking steps to stop spam at the source. Surfshark now has an email fraud verification system, so your subscribers never have to be suspicious of a questionable message again.

The tool uses artificial intelligence to analyze incoming emails. It is trained to recognize the classic signs of a fraudulent message: suspicious content, unusual information about the sender, malicious links or even typical indicators of phishing attempts.

The tool is currently only offered via the Surfshark Chrome extension and is reserved for subscribers to the Surfshark One and One+ plans. If the launch is successful, a launch for Firefox and Edge may follow.

After expanding the network to 1,400 servers and introducing web content blocking on mobile devices, this protection against fraudulent emails further enriches Surfshark’s arsenal.

Is this new Surfshark tool really effective?

Just download the web extension and open your Gmail inbox. When you open your inbox, you will see the “Verify Email” button to start scanning. The tool compared twenty recent suspicious emails: seventeen of them contained phishing elements.

For a version that is still in beta, this is a huge success. For the three unknown messages, the tool will issue at least one warning warning you to be careful.

And privacy?

For those concerned about the privacy of these types of tools, there are some important things to keep in mind.

The analysis system is based on servers and AI, fully managed by Surfshark.

Additionally, user data is deleted after each scan in accordance with Surfshark VPN’s privacy policy. This is based solely on server RAM, AES-256 GCM encryption, and most importantly, a verified zero-logging policy.

This is an equivalent level of privacy to Lumo email assistant, which was launched by Proton Mail in July 2025. These two companies are also among the best current VPN references. We can therefore expect respectful data processing.

The email fraud detection tool is now available. Surfshark subscribers can try it now.
