Apple has announced a new accessory that seems unusual to say the least. Say hello to , a 3D woven “open ribbed structure” designed in collaboration with Issey Miyake. Available with a short or long shoulder strap and can be worn on the arm, in the bag or on the shoulder.
“The design of the iPhone Pocket reflects the connection between the iPhone and its user, considering that an Apple product should be universal in terms of aesthetics and versatile in use,” said Yoshiyuki Miyamae, head of design at Miyake Design Studio, in a statement. “iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of carrying your iPhone on your way’.”
Yes, that “extra bag” is really something that you can buy and decide for yourself whether it’s elegant or, let’s say, quite chic. The short strap model of the iPhone Pocket is available in lemon, tangerine, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, brown and black. The long bracelet design is available in sapphire, brown and black. Molly Anderson, Apple’s vice president of industrial design, added that the different options are “intentionally designed to work with all of our iPhone models and colors.”
The Pocket iPhone will be available from Friday, November 14 on Apple’s website. However, the distribution is not only limited in number, but also local. You can buy one online in the US, France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea or the UK. Since phone theft is so common in the latter country, this isn’t the worst option we’ve seen for protecting your phone while traveling.
If you live in very specific cities, you might even be able to see one in person. In the US, it will only be available at the Apple Store in SoHo, New York. Whether you buy it in person or online, the Pocket iPhone will cost you a pretty penny. The short strap costs $150, while the long strap costs $230.
