Backbone has just released a new Pro version of its Xbox controller. The Backbone Pro Xbox Edition appears to be an improvement over the existing One controller in almost every way.
It’s still a USB-C case with a phone or similar device, but the controller now looks more like a real Xbox gamepad. Includes full size joystick, Hall effect trigger and two customizable back buttons. Most votes can be redistributed. This should make navigating the Game Pass library easier.
This controller has Bluetooth for this purpose. This means there is no need to use a smartphone or other device that can physically connect to the gamepad. Game Pass has been available in recent years on a variety of platforms, from PCs and smart TVs to the Meta Quest VR headset. This opens everything up. The company promises a streamlined tap and play experience.
This Bluetooth mode offers 40 hours of battery life per charge. When used in a wired configuration, it works with your smartphone, so it lasts as long as your phone. The controllers are paired with a proprietary app that enables the aforementioned remapping and other customization options.
The controller is now available in brick-and-mortar stores like Best Buy and digital stores like Amazon. It costs $180 and comes with a free month of Game Pass Ultimate. The only possible downside here is Game Pass itself. The price continues to rise.
