Here are the 8 ColorOS 16 features you should try first from someone who’s been using it for weeks

  • ColorOS 16 is coming to older Oppo phones
  • Debuted on the new phones in the Oppo Find X9 series
  • This new update is Oppo’s Android 16 version and adds many features

Following the recent debut of the Oppo Find X9 and Find

The update for Find N5 and Find was released last week.

At the end of the month, Reno14 and then Reno13 devices will get the ColorOS update, before other devices get it in December and later in “Q1 2026”. Oppo shared the details in the image below:

But what can these devices expect from the update?

AI galore

Well, as we expect from software updates in 2025, the answer is clear: artificial intelligence.

If you use your voice recorder regularly, AI Recorder automatically generates call titles and summaries. In addition, ColorOS can use artificial intelligence to automatically remove noise while enhancing human voices to make recordings clearer.

Your phone can also help you create captions for your instagram photos using AI Writer, or the same tool promises to help you with more complex writing tasks, like creating a project plan.

Then there’s AI Mind Space, which works particularly well with TRIND’s Snap button.

You can also expect new photo tools like AI Portrait Glow to help you fix lighting issues in your photos, as well as a new all-in-one video editor to quickly adjust clips and even convert videos to animated images and vice versa.

Your edited photos (or raw images) can be used in the new Flux themes home screen layouts. You can adjust the details based on your desired aesthetic and your needs, and I love how the AI can intelligently suggest edits and create depth on screen by inserting text and elements between the foreground and background elements of your images.

There’s Aqua Dynamics, which acts as an alternative to the Dynamic Island/Now Bar, a new “Light Design” that shares some aesthetics with liquid glass (which isn’t a bad thing because it’s well-made in my opinion), and just like with the iPhone, there are new integrations for people using Oppo and iPhone devices, such as the ability to answer your Oppo calls.

That’s a lot of updates, but you can expect a few more updates. To try them out, check out Oppo’s full ColorOS 16 review.
