GoPro Max 2 Leak Reveals Prototype of Next 360 Camera

The wait for a follow-up to the GoPro Max has been a long one—after all, the original 360-degree camera debuted back in 2019. But a recent leak suggests that its long-anticipated successor might finally be just around the corner.

As first noticed by Notebookcheck and highlighted in a Reddit thread, a prototype of what appears to be the GoPro Max 2 has surfaced on a Chinese marketplace. One clear sign that it’s still a prototype? It lacks a display screen—something the final version is almost certain to include.

Despite the early stage, the leak reveals a few interesting details. The camera features GoPro’s familiar Folding Fingers mounting system, seen on other recent models. Internally, the size of the heatsinks hints that this device could generate a fair amount of heat during use.

We also get a glimpse of one of the front-facing lenses, giving us a better sense of the camera’s overall size and design. Of course, the big question remains: how will its image and video quality stack up against rivals like the Insta360 X5 and the upcoming DJI Osmo 360? For that, we’ll have to wait and see.

Since this is clearly an early prototype of the GoPro Max 2, there’s only so much we can infer about the final product. Still, the leak offers a fascinating glimpse into what GoPro has been developing behind the scenes.

Earlier this month, excitement grew when GoPro dropped an official teaser trailer for the Max 2. But since then, the company has remained silent, leaving fans to speculate. With a prototype now in the wild, it’s safe to assume a full reveal isn’t too far off.

Back in February, GoPro made a few minor updates to the original Max, but it wasn’t the full overhaul many had hoped for. The company has acknowledged ongoing production delays over the years, which have repeatedly pushed back the Max 2’s release.

Hopefully, the wait is nearly over. Once it launches, the new 360-degree camera is likely to earn a spot among the best GoPros available. As soon as GoPro shares anything official, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
