GTA 6 is postponed again: fans have to grit their teeth until the end of 2026

  • Rockstar Games has confirmed another delay for GTA 6
  • Grand Theft Auto 6 will now be released on November 19, 2026
  • Stated goal: To provide an “unprecedented” experience.

The wait for the next Grand Theft Auto continues: Rockstar Games – and parent company Take-Two Interactive – have announced another delay. GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.

In a press release, Rockstar Games specifies that this new date comes six months after the originally planned date of May 26, 2026. The publisher added: “We are sorry to further extend the wait, which we already know is long, but these few extra months will allow us to perfect the game that you expect.”

Each work of Grand Theft Auto represents a colossal project and GTA 6 seems to want to go even further than GTA 5. In this context, Rockstar Games’ desire to offer a perfectly controlled game seems logical.

The title takes us back to a modern version of Vice City called Leonidas and follows the adventures of two protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. This long-awaited chapter is mentioned at the end of the press release:

“Thanks again for your patience and support. The wait will be a bit longer, but we can’t wait for you to experience the growing state of Leonidas and return to present-day Vice City.” The transition from spring – May 26 – to fall/winter – November 19 – also gives you the opportunity to get started now that the holiday season is approaching.

Rockstar Games confirmed this new date on X (formerly Twitter). During the quarterly investor call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said, “We remain excited and confident that they will deliver an unprecedentedly successful entertainment experience.”

Many expected concrete news about GTA 6 from this call for results, especially since additional information and a first trailer had been revealed in previous meetings. But this time, the news will not please impatient fans. However, Rockstar seems more confident about this new deadline, and Zelnick’s comments suggest that the game will reach a high level of completion, both in terms of gameplay and story.

It’s not out of the question that new trailers, gameplay footage, or plot reveals will surface between now and November 19, 2026. GTA 6 is still slated for release on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PS5. However, given the initial postponement from 2025 to 2026, the issue of compatibility with a future generation of consoles may also arise after this new postponement.
