- IKEA offers six new, unique products for your smart home
- They were created in collaboration with the Swedish designer Teklan.
- There are three speakers, two speaker lights and one lamp.
IKEA has some new smart home devices to show off, made in collaboration with Teklan (Swedish Tekla designer Evelina Severin): We have three contenders for our list of the best bluetooth speakers and three lamps, two of which have built-in speakers.
All of these units feature striking patterns and colors that Teklan is known for. They have a distinctive look and IKEA says the range “prioritises expression” and is designed to “combine technology and personal style”.
The three Bluetooth speakers are part of the SOLSKYDD product family and come in three sizes: a small, portable 8-inch orange model ($79.99), a medium 11-inch model in green, brown and beige ($99.99), and a large 18-inch orange model ($139.99) that can be combined with a screen. The first image in the gallery below shows the comparison between the different sizes.
The largest is designed for wall mounting, but the other two can be wall mounted or placed on a stand. IKEA hasn’t announced international prices yet, but we’ll update this story as soon as we have them.
All these speakers can be connected to each other and also to existing IKEA Bluetooth speakers if you want a multi-speaker. They’re also compatible with spotify Tap, so you can resume playing your music with just one tap.
Also new lights.
Next we have the two speaker lights called KULGLASS. These are probably my favorite products from the new line, as they serve as both a light source and a way to stream music (or podcasts or audiobooks).
The swirly shades are apparently inspired by soft serve ice cream (another reason I love it) and you can choose between a black model with a lime green shade or a red model with a pink shade.
Finally, for now, there’s a “spotted interpretation” of the existing FADO lamp, which IKEA says is designed to cast a soft glow in any room you place it in. The light shines through a cream and brown shade and has a somewhat futuristic look, while the current FADO lamp only has a plain white shade.
IKEA says all of these products will go on sale in December, and we’ll add those international prices to this story as soon as we have them.
