  • IMSCAD provides direct access to powerful Lenovo workstations for demanding design tasks
  • Desktop computers are located in Equinix data centers with 1:1 user connections
  • Monthly contracts range from 1 month to 36 months for flexible use

IMSCAD and Lenovo workstations now offer remote configuration for users who need to run heavy design and 3D software without paying the high prices of public cloud services.

The service gives each user a 1:1 connection to a workstation such as the ThinkStation P3 Ultra with a 9th generation Intel processor up to 6.0 GHz and an Nvidia chip with up to 24 GB of VRAM.

The vendor delivers this hardware via cloud hosting and promises lower costs with consistent performance.

The most economical way for graphics workloads

IMSCAD states The service is based on Lenovo hardware and the systems are 50% cheaper than advanced public cloud platforms.

“For too long, public cloud prices have been too high to run desktop and graphics applications,” said CEO Adam Jull.

“Imagine having a super-powerful workstation that you never see or touch, but that you can access from anywhere in the world: this is the reality we offer architects, engineers and designers today.”

The installation removes shared virtual machines and gives users direct access to dedicated desktops.

This approach allows users to pay less while benefiting from faster hardware by leveraging cloud storage and hosting platforms.

TKDA, an engineering, architecture and planning firm in Minnesota, tested four different services, replacing the format adopted during the covid-19 crisis.

TKDA runs AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and point cloud programs, and these programs require powerful graphics output.

The test showed that the remote desktop handled these tasks without lag or instability.

“IMSCAD significantly outperformed all other solutions in our tests,” said Nicholas J. Steele, Principal Systems Analyst at TKDA.

“The performance of the Lenovo P3 Ultra we used surprised all testers. None of us thought we would ever surpass our local machines even slightly.”

This service is managed as ‘Workstation as a Service’ and uses workstations that can be rented on a monthly basis with contracts ranging from one month to 36 months.

The model is clear and simple: users rent a desktop computer, pay a fixed monthly fee and avoid the higher costs of public cloud instances.

The workstations are located in the Equinix data center and users connect directly to them. IMSCAD claims to be a simpler and more cost-effective way to run large-scale graphics workloads.
