Microsoft is expected to raise the price of Xbox consoles again “very soon” due to a possible global RAM shortage.

This is what tech YouTubers are saying.Moore’s Law is dead» in his new video “OpenAI RAM Hoarding Leak” (via TGP), who spoke to multiple sources including retailers, memory manufacturers and partners.

They claim that Microsoft may be forced to raise the price of the Xbox series

“(Microsoft) apparently had nothing planned,” they said. “If for some reason you still want an Xbox at the current price, those prices could rise quickly, or supply could simply dry up completely, as many of my sources seem to have been warned by Microsoft salespeople that this will affect the Xbox line of consoles very, very soon. Sooner or later.”

While there appears to be a RAM shortage that could affect Microsoft, MLID said that Sony would avoid a price increase for its PS5 consoles because the company had “planned ahead”.

“From what I’ve heard, Sony planned ahead and bought large amounts of RAM at near rock bottom, so it should work for months,” the YouTuber added.

“They have a lot of GDDR6, at least that’s what I’m told. At some point the prices may go up; I think it will happen next year… but there’s a reason why Sony is cutting PlayStation 5 prices for Black Friday. They’re not just cutting prices for extreme reasons or because sales are bad. They can afford it; apparently they’re not worried in the short term, at least in the medium term.”

If Microsoft is forced to raise the cost of its hardware for a third time, prices could skyrocket. The company increased the cost of its consoles for the first time in May this year, across all Xbox series.

It has been an eventful year for Microsoft. Big changes to Xbox Game Pass were also announced last month, with three updated subscriptions and a huge increase in the price of the Ultimate subscription.

Ultimate is now $29.99 / £22.99 / AU$35.95 per month, down from $19.99 / £14.99 / AU$22.95. It is not currently possible to purchase a 12-month subscription.
