When was the last time you were mad at Facebook?
This feature has been available since the early days of the social media platform. Originally designed as a way to reach other users without sending a meaningful message or content, it underwent a gradual relaunch in 2017 and 2024.
Now Meta still has trouble keeping in touch with friends or even flirting. As interest appears to be growing among younger Facebook users, poker is a normal part of life and may resurface, they say. TechCrunch.
Facebook has a central Poke page on facebook.com/pokes Here you can see who pushed you, who pushed you and who should be the target of your next move according to the Meta Algorithm. However, Poke feature updates may not be available to everyone yet. Meta is planning a global release of the new features.
Poke plans include indicators for the number of Pokes, the ability to delete Pokes, and emoji badges similar to those on platforms like snapchat AND tiktok.
Why apply now?
“People, especially young adults, are looking for easier ways to socialize,” said Ime Archibong, vice president of product management at Meta. “The beauty of poking is that it’s an easy way to show your friends you’re thinking of them, and the meaning is entirely up to you.”
Archibong said that in addition to the Poke homepage, Poke will be more easily accessible through Facebook profile pages and the Friends tab.
“We saw initial positive results in our pre-launch tests with young adults in the US and Canada (ages 18 to 29),” Archibong said. “We are excited to release these updates globally.”
What exactly is smallpox?
One marketing expert says it might be more helpful if Facebook finally explained the meaning of a “nudge” instead of forcing users to use the feature.
“Facebook has never explained exactly what poking is or what it’s for,” said David B. Wright, founder of W3 Group Marketing. “A nudge doesn’t go viral. There’s no attention grabber, no hook, nothing other than the nudge itself to get a person’s attention.”
Wright said the Poke feature needs to be well marketed and there is a strategy behind it to attract younger users.
“Facebook has more data about each of us than any other organization. It should use that data more deeply to determine and test what people really want and need,” Wright said.
“To make it more successful this time, they may need to be clearer about its purpose and the different elements (the tap itself, tap count tracking, gamification elements, etc.) to make it more than just a feature you just use,” he said.
