- Sony has announced a new 200-megapixel image sensor for the smartphone.
- It is the largest 200-megapixel sensor ever built into a smartphone with a 1/1.12-inch format.
- It should be equipped mainly with models signed by Oppo and Vivo.
Sony introduces 200-megapixel LYTIA LYT-901 image sensor for smartphones. This 1/1.12-inch sensor will be the world’s largest 200-megapixel sensor.
This term “maximum” has not yet been confirmed. Press release Sony has not commented on this information. On the other hand, an official leader @sondesix X confirms this.
Either way, the sensor is huge, and its features include 0.7μm pixels, 4x zoom (with built-in cropping), built-in AI that speeds up processing and improves detail in photos and videos, and a number of new features.
Vivo and Oppo can take things forward
Although this sensor looks impressive, serious questions still remain. Which smartphones will be included in this?
There is no official confirmation at this stage, but @sondesix suggests that the sensor will be integrated into the Vivo X300 Ultra and Oppo Find X9 Ultra.
reliable source of information @UniverseIce It has also been reported that the sensors will come to Xiaomi and Honor. Although the specific model is not mentioned, it is probably meant for a high-end smartphone. Even if the leak does not explicitly mention this sensor in this model, we can think of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, for example, so we should not assume anything.
Everything indicates that Chinese brands will be the first to adopt Sony’s new sensors. @UniverseIce also said that Samsung will not be using this feature, at least in the near future. So don’t expect it to appear on the Galaxy S26 Ultra or even the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
It is unlikely from Apple that this sensor will be integrated into the iPhone. This is because brands prefer solutions with fewer megapixels.
The first concrete demonstration of the capabilities of this sensor may come in March, when the Vivo X300 Ultra is scheduled to launch (possibly only in China at first). It’s also possible that it will be included in the Find X9 Ultra in April.
