Social media is a huge part of our lives today, but the Pew Research Center has provided an in-depth look at the extent to which we depend on these platforms. in one Report 2025 The data-driven think tank examines social media use among US adults and revealed some basic data, such as year-over-year changes, age differences and, most importantly, frequency of use.

The first is YouTube: 84% of the 5,022 adults surveyed said they use Alphabet’s video-sharing platform. Meta takes home the silver and bronze medals as 71% of adults say they use Facebook, while 50% respond positively when it comes to using Instagram. But not all social meta-networks work well. Although Threads reached 400 million monthly active users this summer, only 8% of adults surveyed said they use it. At the bottom of the list, only 21% of adults surveyed said they use X, while 4% of adults said they use Bluesky and 3% said they use Truth Social.

In addition to popularity, the Pew Research Center also examined how often American adults use their favorite social media platforms. In a separate survey of 5,123 adults, the report found that 52 percent of adults visit Facebook every day and 37 percent of them log in multiple times a day. Just as often, 48% of adults use YouTube every day, including 33% who watch videos on the platform several times a day. Looking at frequency through the lens of age differences reveals the biggest difference: 47% of adults aged 18 to 29 use TikTok at least once a day, while only 5% of those over 65 use the ByteDance app daily.

Looking at year-over-year trends, YouTube and Facebook have maintained largely stable usage and even some growth since 2021. While it appears that Facebook is starting to plateau, the report shows that the company has a loyal user base that continues to grow steadily. In addition, Meta continues to update the social media platform, including the recent redesign of the Facebook Marketplace.
