First up are the headphones, which offer 30 hours of listening time, active noise cancellation and joystick controls. Fairphone says they will be available in stores in late November or early December and are currently available online.

Surprisingly, an Android version of the Fairphone 6 is already available under the brand in the US through French startup Murena. Murena Fairphone (Gen.6). This model uses an operating system called /e/OS and is “from Google”, which means that there are no pre-installed Google apps and services, as is the case with most other Android-based smartphones.

When Fairphone starts selling the phone in the US, it will run Android with Google apps and services pre-installed.

But it’s repairability and durability that Sneep says are critical to appealing to American consumers, “who are increasingly interested in their right to repair and the extended lifespan of their devices.”

There has been a big push to enable do-it-yourself repairs of phones and other devices. Laws on the right to repair They have been introduced in all 50 states and some are already in effect (see). this handy map from iFixit). Whether for technical equipment or agricultural machinery, these laws require manufacturers to provide parts, tools, diagnostic software and repair documentation. It’s about giving consumers more control over their purchases and making sure they last, rather than choosing to throw them away and buy a new one.

“Fairphone’s long campaign focused on creating a phone that lasts longer and is easy to repair, so this initiative was quite well received in the US by price-conscious phone buyers,” Sorrentino said. “It may also be new to see a phone in American stores where the battery can be replaced without having to make an appointment at a repair shop.”
