- Trump confirmed to Chinese President Xi that the ban on the export of Nvidia H200 chips has been lifted
- Advanced chips like Blackwell and Rubin still have limitations
- AMD, Intel and other companies may soon receive similar approvals
President Donald Trump has formalized the resumption of exports of certain electronic chips to China and other affected countries, including Nvidia’s H200 models.
These exports will be limited to approved commercial customers on terms consistent with US national security. Additionally, Washington plans to impose a 25% tax on every H200 export.
However, this permission is limited to H200 chips only. Nvidia’s newer models, such as Blackwell and Rubin, cannot yet be exported to China.
Trump approves export of Nvidia H200 to China
“I have informed President Xi of China that the United States will allow Nvidia to ship its H200 products to approved customers in China and other countries under conditions that ensure strong national security,” he said. To write Trump on social truth.
He said the 25% tax on all exports “will support American jobs, strengthen domestic manufacturing and benefit American taxpayers.”
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the company’s market share in China, estimated at 95%, will virtually collapse by 2025. Nvidia shares rose slightly after Trump’s announcement.
In his message, Trump also took the opportunity to criticize Joe Biden, accusing him of “forcing big American companies to spend billions of dollars developing substandard products that nobody wanted,” which he said hurts national innovation.
While exports of the latest generation of Nvidia chips remain banned, Trump promised that AMD, Intel and “other major American companies” will soon receive similar approvals.
According to Trump’s statements, China would have responded positively to this decision.
Nvidia welcomed this in a press release. Reutersstates that “offering the H200 to approved commercial customers is a smart compromise that benefits the United States.”
