Dyson hair care devices are very good, but also very expensive. I curate NewForTech’s best hair styling guides and blow dryers, and in addition to reviewing and writing about hair styling gadgets as part of my day job, I also keep track of the awards.
Black Friday is fast approaching and many people will be looking for great deals on Dyson hair care products. Having covered this shopping event for a number of years, I have a good idea of what to expect when it comes to Dyson’s offerings.
In the US, Amazon last month dropped the price of the Airwrap Origin from $529.99 to $399.99 (unfortunately it’s no longer available), and on Black Friday 2024 there was a $100 discount on the Supersonic Origin direct from Dyson, bringing it down to $329.99.
What models should I look for?
The two models to look out for are Origin of supersonics and that The origin of air packaging. Several new generations of both have been released, but the originals are still around, although not part of the official Dyson range.
The Supersonic is the hair dryer that made Dyson a major player in the hair and beauty market. In 2024, it was officially replaced by the Supersonic Nural. This dryer is packed with technology and truly impressive (read more in my Dyson Supersonic Nural review), but it’s also expensive, with a sticker price of $499.99 / £399.99 / AU$749.
As a reminder, the best deals I’ve seen for the Origin version are $329.99 / £189, which is still an investment, but much more palatable.
Supersonic Nural is more advanced, but also significantly more expensive
The original Airwrap was released in 2018, but several newer versions have been released since then: Airwrap (2022), Airwrap id (released in 2024) and Airwrap Co-anda 2x from 2025. The latest version has an attractive starting price of $749.99 / £579.99 / AU$. I saw the Origin version for $399.99 in the US. United.
What are the caveats?
The Origin version of these devices are not as advanced as the newer versions. In some cases, the extra savings can make all the difference, but in other cases, you may want to invest in one of the latter options to get the tool you really need.
As for the Supersonic, the Origin version is still an excellent hair dryer. It is powerful and has an aerodynamic shape that is easy to handle. The Nural version has a scalp protection mode where the dryer increases or decreases heat depending on how close it is to your head, to maintain a constant scalp temperature. There is also room for accessories. See my article Dyson Supersonic Nural vs Supersonic for more information on the differences between these two options.
Airwrap ID has a handy switch that automates the loop sequence for you.
Early airwraps required you to reverse the barrel to go from right-handed to left-handed loops. This issue has been resolved in version 2022; check the list of your favorite Airwrap Origin to see if this is possible or not.
The ID version has an idcurl switch that starts an automatic rinse->curl->cold blow sequence tailored to your hair type. This saves a lot of effort, but the curl function is pretty much the same in both versions. For a more detailed breakdown of the differences, check out my Dyson Airwrap vs Airwrap ID explanation.
The 2x version is smaller, lighter and more powerful than the ID, but has the same features as far as I know.
