Intel’s Arrow Lake Refresh May Arrive in Late 2025 with a Focus on AI

Intel is rumored to launch its Arrow Lake Refresh desktop CPUs in the second half of 2025. These new chips may not bring major changes to core performance, but they could introduce a much stronger NPU (Neural Processing Unit).

This upgrade would allow desktop PCs to support Copilot+ features for the first time. However, gamers might not be thrilled.

What’s Changing?

According to a translated report from ZDNet Korea, the Arrow Lake Refresh will:

  • Keep the same CPU and GPU cores as current Arrow Lake chips.
  • Include a more powerful NPU, likely the one used in Lunar Lake laptop processors.
  • Offer slightly higher clock speeds.

Currently, Arrow Lake desktop CPUs have an NPU, but it’s too weak to support Copilot+ features, such as AI-powered Windows search and Recall. With the upgraded NPU, these features would become available on desktops.

Why Focus on AI?

This shift suggests Intel may be pivoting away from gaming performance. Arrow Lake has struggled to impress gamers, especially compared to the older Raptor Lake Refresh, which reportedly outsells it three-to-one in Korea.

Efforts to improve gaming performance through BIOS updates haven’t made a big impact. If Intel sees gaming as a lost cause for this generation, focusing on AI could be a strategic move.

Bringing Copilot+ to desktops would be a first—and could appeal to productivity-focused users who want access to advanced Windows 11 features.

Should Gamers Care?

Gamers won’t be completely left out. Slightly faster clock speeds could offer a small performance boost. However, the gains are expected to be modest and likely won’t significantly alter the overall gaming experience.

What’s Next?

The Arrow Lake Refresh is still unconfirmed. Rumors about its existence have gone back and forth—first, it was happening, then it wasn’t, and now it seems to be back on track.

If the refresh does launch, expect it later in the second half of 2025. For now, treat these details as speculation until more sources confirm them.
