Netflix is experimenting with the idea of bringing video games to more platforms through a limited beta test, although unfortunately, it is not yet accessible from Spain. This beta version is currently accessible to some members in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Video games were added to Netflix in 2021; Right now, all paying Netflix members, regardless of membership level, have free access to a collection of titles, including Oxenfree and its recently released sequel, Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals, Before Your Eyes and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. However, until now they could only be played on mobile devices.

As announced yesterday (August 14) by Netflix VP of Gaming Mike Verdu, a small number of Netflix members in Canada and the UK can experience Oxenfree and Molehew’s Mining Adventure on select TVs through a limited beta, the goal of which is to experience The Netflix’s “game streaming technology and controller. The command? Your phone.

In principle, TV games will only work on certain devices. For now, that includes Samsung Smart TVs, Roku devices (and TVs), LG TVs, Chromecast to Google TV, Walmart ONN, NVIDIA Shield TV, and Amazon Fire TV streaming media players. However, more devices will be added to this list later.

Additionally, in the coming weeks, the limited beta will roll out to supported browsers on PC and Mac, where members will be able to play games using a mouse and keyboard.

“By making the games available on more devices, we hope to make it even easier for our members around the world to play,” Verdu wrote in a post via the Netflix newsroom. “While we are still very early in our gaming journey, we are excited to bring joy to our members with games. We look forward to hearing feedback from our testers and sharing more as we continue on the road ahead.”

Netflix hopes the process will end up “improving the member experience over time.”
