Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Design and Display

When it comes to design, the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra diverge significantly. The former measures 158.5 x 75.9 x 7.7mm and weighs 196g, while the latter is slightly larger at 162.3 x 79.0 x 8.6mm and heavier at 232g.

Taking cues from the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro, the Galaxy S24 Plus boasts narrower bezels, flatter edges, and a sturdier Armor Aluminum frame compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Plus. However, visually, it remains quite similar to last year’s Plus-sized Galaxy model.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra, on the other hand, is slightly shorter, slimmer, and lighter than the Galaxy S23 Ultra, primarily due to its titanium sides reminiscent of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Yet, it still outweighs the Galaxy S24 Plus. Despite its weight, the titanium sides lend the Galaxy S24 Ultra a more premium appearance.

Moreover, the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with an S Pen, unlike the Galaxy S24 Plus.

Both phones feature displays with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and Samsung’s Vision Booster feature for enhanced outdoor visibility. They also share the same variable 1Hz-120Hz refresh rate.

In essence, the displays of the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra are nearly identical, with the latter being slightly larger. Therefore, the Galaxy S24 Plus shouldn’t be overlooked based on screen quality.

Regarding color options, the Galaxy S24 Plus offers Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Sandstone Orange, Sapphire Blue, and Jade Green, with the latter three being exclusive to the Samsung store. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is available in Titanium Black, Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet, Titanium Yellow, Titanium Orange, Titanium Blue, and Titanium Green, with the last three being exclusive to the Samsung store.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Cameras

When it comes to camera prowess, the Galaxy S24 Ultra reigns supreme, making it the go-to choice for photography enthusiasts.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra features a formidable camera setup, including a 200MP wide lens (f/1.7), a 12MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.2), a 50MP periscope lens (f/3.4) with 5x optical zoom, a 10MP telephoto lens (f/2.4) with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP selfie camera (f/2.2).

In contrast, while the Galaxy S24 Plus’s cameras are decent, they pale in comparison to the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s offerings. The Galaxy S24 Plus retains its predecessor’s 50MP wide lens (f/1.8), 12MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.2), 10MP telephoto lens (f/2.4, 3x optical zoom), and 12MP selfie camera (f/2.2).

Both devices boast a range of AI-powered photography features, including Generative Edit, Edit Suggestion, Super HDR, and Instant Slow-mo, ensuring powerful editing capabilities on both phones. Therefore, if advanced photo editing tools are essential to you, the Galaxy S24 Plus remains a strong contender despite its slightly inferior camera hardware.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus vs S24 Ultra: Performance and Software

The Galaxy S24 Plus comes with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset or Samsung Exynos 2400 chipset depending on your region, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra universally features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

In essence, if you’re in the US (where the Galaxy S24 Plus has a Snapdragon chipset), both phones offer equal power. However, in regions like the UK (where the Galaxy S24 Plus has an Exynos chipset and the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a Snapdragon chipset), you might wonder which is faster.

Unlike previous years, where Exynos chips lagged behind Snapdragon, the Exynos-equipped Galaxy S24 Plus matches the Snapdragon-equipped Galaxy S24 Ultra in power. Although benchmark scores slightly favor the Snapdragon, real-world performance differences are negligible.

Both phones boast 12GB of RAM, ensuring smooth handling of demanding applications, multitasking, and gaming with ray tracing support.

On the software front, both the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra run Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI, offering identical Galaxy AI features such as real-time translation and generative photo editing.

Samsung guarantees seven years of OS and security updates for both models.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus vs S24 Ultra: Battery Life

In terms of battery life, the Galaxy S24 Plus sports a 4,900mAh battery, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra boasts a slightly larger 5,000mAh battery due to its slightly bigger display. However, the Galaxy S24 Plus emerges as the battery life champion among the Galaxy S24 lineup.

In our tests, the Exynos-powered Galaxy S24 Plus lasted over a day and a half with moderate usage, even with the always-on display active. The Snapdragon-equipped version recorded 16 hours of battery life in separate tests. In contrast, the Galaxy S24 Ultra clocked 30 minutes less than the Galaxy S24 Plus in our standard mode test.

Overall, there isn’t much difference in battery performance between the two models. Both the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra support maximum charging capacities of up to 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
