“A bulldozer called Broadcom” hits cloud service providers

Broadcom has ended the VMware Cloud Service Provider Advantage Partner Program (VCSP) and confirmed that it will not renew its partner agreements starting January 26, 2026, meaning only certain partners will be able to join, resulting in a more limited choice of providers for customers.

This change is expected to affect hundreds of European cloud service providers, each with their own loyal customer base, and they are clearly not happy.

Broadcom presented the change as a response to “changing customer needs” and cited growing adoption of VMware Cloud Foundation.

Broadcom just ended the VMware CSP Advantage partner program

CISPE has already criticized Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware and the associated changes: in December 2025, the European group of cloud providers accused the European Commission of failing to properly assess the risks associated with the Broadcom acquisition.

“By approving the agreement, Brussels gave Broadcom a blank check to increase prices, attract and retain customers,” wrote Secretary General Francisco Mingorence.

Kristian Liivak, CTO of one of VCSP’s partners, WaveCom, accused the “bulldozer called Broadcom” of “finally encroaching on the other EU cloud service providers and terminating almost all of VMware’s partner contracts” (via The Registry). WaveCom joined CISPE Just a few days ago, membership was tied to European cloud sovereignty and not Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware.

Liivak also noted that there are only 19 VSCPs left in the United States and that the same consolidation appears to be happening across Europe.

Critics, including CISPE, warn that this market consolidation could ultimately lead to a decrease in competition and therefore an increase in prices for customers, but also to a reduction in the data sovereignty of European companies.

While Broadcom has not commented on this specific issue, the company has previously stated that the ongoing changes help deliver greater value and a more streamlined experience. Company management, including CEO Hock Tan, are well aware of the current dissatisfaction and mistrust.
