A knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 3 premiered on HBO Max and other streaming services and finally solves one of the series’ biggest mysteries.
Titled “The Squire”, the game of Thrones The final chapter of the prequel lifts the veil on Egg’s true identity. And for viewers who haven’t read it yet. The errant knightAlso known as the first part of the Dunk and Egg book trilogy, it will surprise you as much as Dunk.

What is Egg’s real name in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
Outside AKotSK After Egg premiered on HBO Max and other streaming platforms in mid-January, non-book readers have speculated that Egg is hiding a big secret. However, he is not only a member of House Targaryen, but also the youngest son of Prince Maekar Targaryen, who disappeared a few days ago.
Viewers who made these predictions will feel vindicated by what is revealed in “The Squire.”
First, around 10:00 pm, Egg is surprised by a fortune teller when she tells Dunk and Egg what the future holds for both of them. What scares Egg? Not only does he say, “You will be king,” but he also tells Egg that he will “die in a burning fire, worms will feed on your ashes, and all who know you will rejoice at your death.”
Similar comments will immediately perk up the ears. Thrones Zealots, as the Westerosi noble family most commonly associated with fire is House Targaryen. Still, anyone can be burned alive, which doesn’t necessarily confirm that Egg is a Targaryen.
However, what happens in the final scene of Episode 3 does. While Dunk is enjoying a drink or five with his new friend Raymun, they are interrupted by a panicked egg. He tells Dunk that Aerion Targaryen attacked Tanselle, a performer for a traveling theater troupe whom Dunk fell in love with.
Seeing that Aerion destroyed the group’s tent and injured Tanselle (Aerion considers the group’s dragon game to be blasphemous due to its depiction of the beasts that House Targaryen considers sacred), an enraged Dunk attacks the Targaryen Prince before being captured by Aerion’s guards.
Aerion orders his entourage to punish Dunk by knocking out all of his teeth, but when he arrives on the scene, Egg intervenes and pleads for Dunk’s life.
Aerion immediately recognizes the little fellow, and after a brief conversation, Egg essentially confirms that to Dunk and the gathered crowd (and, by proxy, to us), he is a Targaryen. And although his real name is not spoken aloud until the closing credits of Episode 3, Egg is the person known as Aegon V. Targaryen.
Who is Aegon V Targaryen? And have we ever heard this name in Game of Thrones?
I won’t talk about Aegon V. Targaryen in detail as there are spoilers for the rest of this season and season 2 of A knight of the Seven KingdomsThis, along with many of HBO Max’s other TV show renewals, was announced last November.
What I want to say, however, is that he is a future king of Westeros and will play a very important role in the future of the continent and the world. Thrones the universe as a whole. You can read more about it online if you really want to know more about what to expect.
It’s also not the first time Egg has been mentioned in one of HBO’s adaptations of George RR Martin’s beloved fantasy universe. In episode 7 of game of Thrones In Season 5, a delusional Maester Aemon calls someone named Egg to his deathbed.
As we learned in Episode 9 Aemon is a Targaryen ThronesIn the first season, it becomes clear that he is related to Egg. Only those who have read this. That’s not the only thing that connects Egg Thrones“radical history. In fact, Aegon V Targaryen is also the grandfather of Aerys II Targaryen, also known as The Mad King.
For the uninitiated, Aerys was the sixteenth and last Targaryen to sit on the Iron Throne. He is also responsible for devising the plot that would have destroyed King’s Landing (killing countless innocents in the process) in the final event of the great civil war known as Robert’s Rebellion.
However, Aerys’ plan was thwarted when Jaime Lannister, one of Aerys’ royal guards, murdered him to prevent all these deaths. So when Egg’s future is told in “The Squire,” it’s likely that even though the fortune teller says “You will be king,” it’s actually Aerys being talked about with the whole fire and worm business.
What will happen to Dunk after episode 3 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
