Alexa+ is coming to BMW vehicles

Amazon is gradually rolling out its next-generation Alexa assistant across its product ecosystem, but the latest recipient of Alexa+ is BMW. Amazon has advertisement the latest version of Alexa Custom Assistant, the platform that allows companies (including BMW) to develop their own AI assistants using Alexa technology, which will be compatible with Alexa+ in the future.

With the Alexa+ architecture under the hood, drivers will benefit from a more natural conversational style during in-vehicle interactions, while taking advantage of the assistant agent’s broader capabilities and ability to process more complex instructions than before. Alexa+ has access to more than 70 major language models (LLMs), and Amazon has promised that any conversation you have on one of its home devices can continue in the car.

BMW has already used Alexa Custom Assistant as the basis for its in-car voice assistant technology, which BMW calls Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA), and will be the first automaker to get access to Alexa+. At CES 2024, the two companies also unveiled a new feature that allows Alexa to take over the driver’s manual and answer any questions about your car in real time.

BMW is completely dependent on the Amazon ecosystem and the functions connected to it are also supported by the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. The new Alexa Personalized Assistant will soon be available for selected BMW models. We currently have no specific information on the exact date or which vehicles will receive it.
