Canon prepares a bombshell: the reveal is imminent

  • Canon is showing off its next camera, which is expected to be unveiled on November 6
  • The visible lens confirms that it is a full-frame model
  • Previous rumors point to an EOS R6 Mark III

Canon has just unveiled its next camera facebook page and other social networks, confirming the launch on November 6 at 07:00 (Paris time).
In this short video, the camera is mounted on a tripod in a mountainous landscape during the blue hour. This is still largely unclear, but some details already allow us to draw some conclusions.

The attached lens is a Canon RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM zoom, a lens designed for full-frame sensors.

The silhouette of the device appears identical to that of the EOS R6 II or EOS R5 II. However, given that the EOS R5 II was recently launched and even won the Best Camera of 2024 award, this suggests that it could be the successor to the EOS R6 II, perhaps called the Canon EOS R6 III, or even a completely new model.

The latest rumors from Canon go like this: The EOS R6 III could be the next model to be unveiled, making it the most important launch of the year for the brand.

What the rumors say

The EOS R6 II is almost three years old, so time for an upgrade.

We still don’t know exactly what Canon’s next camera will be, but what can we expect if it really is an EOS R6 III?

According to the latest rumors, the EOS R6 III would compete with both the Nikon Z6 III and the current Sony A7 IV, a little old in the scheme (and which Sony would soon evaluate the possibility of replacing with a hypothetical A7 V). This new Canon may have the same 34.2MP sensor (which produces 32MP photos) as the recently announced EOS C50.

The move from 24MP to 32MP would be interesting news, especially if the EOS R6 III allows you to record 7K video with any sensor like the EOS C50, as indicated by some rumors shared by Rumors about Canon. The sensor would logically be stabilized as we are left with the EOS R6 series, unlike the EOS C50 which is aimed at the cinema segment.

Three years after the release of the R6 II, significant performance improvements are expected, especially in the areas of autofocus and burst. Rumors point to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system with improved subject detection, 40 frames per second (with electronic shutter) and pre-shoot function.

With such a wealth of new features, the EOS R6 III can establish itself as one of the most popular full-frame cameras to date. This may even change the ranking of the best devices, especially if the expected price of 2,899 euros is confirmed.

All indications are that Canon wants to end the year in a good way with this new product. What model can we expect? And if it really was the EOS R6 III, what improvements would one expect the most?
