Gemini 3 improves AI previews in Google Search and links directly to conversations in AI mode

Google Search has updated its General AI Answers with its Gemini 3 AI model to better answer complex queries in a single snapshot. The update also lets you go from an AI presentation response directly to a conversation in Google Search AI mode on mobile without having to switch tabs or start over.

AI previews, those small summaries that appear on top of traditional search results, are designed to summarize long, confusing answers to complex questions without requiring you to click on links. As Gemini 3 becomes the global standard for mobile AI previews, Google says responses will be smarter, longer and better structured.

As improved as these answers are, they may not achieve everything you want. This is where the connection between static AI previews and interactive AI mode for Google Search comes into play. The update makes it easier to transition this snapshot into a full conversational exchange in AI mode.

Previously, if you wanted to turn your preview into a full conversation, you had to click on the AI Mode tab and start searching again. Now you can stay in the flow of your search results and dig deeper with minimal friction. In early testing, Google found that people naturally wanted these conversational search extensions, rather than hitting a wall after the first AI-generated response.

While the overview gives you a starting point, the conversation allows you to discover every detail without having to start a new search. You can then refine your question, request exceptions, or even incorporate tables and other visuals into the same discussion thread.

Conversation transitions

Gemini 3 makes both quick snapshots and deeper conversations more useful. Google hopes that if you don’t stop exploring a topic after the first answer, you can satisfy your curiosity without leaving the sandbox.

For most people, this means that the understandable summary above can instantly turn into a deeper, more nuanced conversation without switching tabs, rephrasing the question, or losing context. It’s a search that remembers your questions and anticipates follow-up requests.

This is where context matters. Research has always focused on finding quick answers to simple questions like sports scores or the weather, but life’s big questions are often complex and nuanced.

Knowing that “what to consider before buying a house” cannot be solved with a snippet, Google’s conversational layer seems timely. The ability to request follow-ups and maintain context means fewer redundant queries and less reframing of finer aspects of your problem.

Of course, not all questions can be best answered through conversation. Google’s efforts to use the right model when necessary, with lighter models for quick answers and Gemini 3 for deeper queries, reflect this balance.

And there is a question of precision. No matter how well AI models work, hallucinations happen, and well-crafted responses and dialogue aren’t very helpful if they’re completely wrong.

But a searching experience that’s less like searching for answers and more like a fish dinner prepared from a conversation with the chef is sure to please those in a hurry, even if the fish is sometimes made of rubber.
