If you want to protect your privacy when using one of the best iPhones, the most effective way is to limit the use of your location data. And with iOS 26.3 just around the corner, you’ll soon have another way to keep your private data secret.
In fact, Apple is about to introduce a new feature called “Limit Precise Location” in iOS 26.3. As the name suggests, this aims to reduce the information that can be collected from your location and provide much vaguer data to mobile providers.
In a new support document on Apple’s website, the company explains how Limit Precise Location works. After explaining that it can track your location based on which cell towers your phone is connected to, Apple says the new setting limits the information available to carriers in this way. This could mean that, for example, they can only determine the approximate neighborhood you are in, rather than a specific postal address.
Apple also notes that this new feature does not compromise “signal quality or user experience” and will not affect first responders, as they will still be able to see your exact location in the event of an emergency.
To use it, you’ll need to open the Settings app and tap Mobile > Mobile Data Options, then turn on the switch next to Limit precise location. Your device must reboot every time you enable or disable this feature.
What devices are compatible?
It should be noted that this new feature is subject to certain conditions. For one, Apple says you need an iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, or iPad Pro with an M5 chip, as well as Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity for the feature to work.
Your phone must also be operating on a supported network, as described below:
- Germany: Telecommunications
- UK: EE, BT
- United States: Boost Mobile
- Thailand: AIS, correct
Apple adds that you must be running iOS 26.3 or iPadOS 26.3 on your device. These updates have not been released yet, but should arrive in about a week.
Additionally, while the feature limits network operators’ access to location data, it does not affect location data shared with apps. This must be adjusted separately by going to Privacy & security > Location services in the Settings app.
All of this means that the release of the new feature is currently somewhat limited. However, as more and more Apple devices use the company’s C1 and C1X modems (those powered by the compatible phones listed above), this type of privacy tool should become the norm for Apple fans. And that’s great news for anyone who wants to protect their privacy a little more securely.
