OpenAI and Nvidia attack one of the largest associations in artificial intelligence, and Nvidia has committed to investing up to $100 billion in OpenAI while providing the computing power needed to build the company’s next-generation models.
The deal, announced in a letter of intent on Monday, will allow OpenAI to supply at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems to AI data centers in the coming years. The first phase, at one gigawatt, is planned for the second half of 2026 on Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin platform, named after the late dark matter astronomer. Nvidia’s investment will increase with each new system.
“It all starts with computing power,” Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said in a statement. “IT infrastructure will be the foundation of the economy of the future and we will use what we build together with Nvidia to create new developments in artificial intelligence and empower people and businesses at scale.” »

This collaboration is noteworthy because AI research is increasingly limited by access to large computing resources. By securing a long-term portfolio of Nvidia hardware, OpenAI aims to ensure it can compete with rivals such as google, Anthropic, Microsoft and Meta.
For Nvidia, the deal represents much more than just a supplier. By gradually acquiring a significant stake in OpenAI, it positions itself at the center of the AI boom and joins the largest AI company.
