Ring today announced Single Event Alert, the company’s new approach to reducing unnecessary notifications. Instead of triggering a ping every time the camera detects something, the system uses generative AI to group recurring events.
Previously, the ring camera alerted you when something was detected in its field of view. Heck, at the beginning of Ring Doorbells you got a small motion alert even if a big enough truck drove past your door far enough to change the light level.
The company uses the example of children playing in the garden, which previously activated an alarm at every movement. When it detects that only your kids are playing, it will notify you once and you can focus on your other activities.
This is the latest in a series of AI developments that Ring has introduced over the past year, including intelligent video search and AI video descriptions. Similar to these features, Single Event Alert launches today for Ring Protect Home subscribers in the US (excluding Illinois) and Canada.
