Samsung Electronics introduces Galaxy Z tri-fold folding smartphone

All the rumors turned out to be true. Perhaps the most anticipated and talked about smartphone (apart from the Apple iFold) is the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold, which has already been released and is scheduled to launch this month. But, as is often the case, it’s all in the details.

Samsung Electronics announced on Monday evening (December 1, 2025) that it will launch the first triple-layer foldable smartphone in Korea this month (December 12). It is scheduled to be released in the US in the first quarter of 2026. No information yet on a release in France.

lots of new technologies

Overall, this device looks like a piece of engineering with two types of hinges. One of them should be wide enough to allow the third panel to be folded over the other two. Samsung says the titanium dual-rail hinge has a synergistic effect. It’s natural to wonder whether opening one panel will open another, and it’s unlikely that two-thirds of the screen will be partially visible. So you can use the external 6.5-inch screen or the full 10-inch screen.

The Armor’s aluminum frame is designed to reduce wear and tear by keeping multiple parts of the screen from touching each other. The “reinforced overlay” also protects the flexible display.

Three-stage folding system with three chambers

The exterior consists of a protective shell surrounded by fiber-reinforced polymer panels with ceramic backing. The impressive sensor on the left has three sensors: a 200-megapixel wide-angle main unit, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (120-degree field of view) and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

The external display has a 10-megapixel selfie sensor, while the 10-inch flexible display also has the same type of sensor. This is basically the same set of images as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but the exact sensor specifications are still unknown.

This 10-inch panel is much better than the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s 8-inch display and feels like it’s designed for professional use. Samsung emphasizes DeX compatibility and multitasking capabilities. The system manages four workspaces, each containing five applications. Another app involves linking three 6.5-inch smartphones together using their screens and dragging and dropping content from one app to another.

Naturally, the screen can also be used as a mini pocket cinema for platforms like Netflix and YouTube. The only disappointment is the lack of widespread support.

The Galaxy Z Trifold MCU seems to be ready for movies and even longer streaming sessions, with its 5,600mAh battery divided into three sections.

Playing games on a larger screen is another important use case. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile processor for the Galaxy platform. This SoC is manufactured using 3nm technology and will be slightly overclocked to be compatible with the new format. The base version comes with 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. A 1 TB version is also planned.

The price is not known yet. Most rumors point to a range of 3,000 to 3,500 euros, but the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 seems solid considering it starts at 2,099 euros.

samsung surprise

It’s unusual for Samsung to reveal so much information without being flashy. This is likely due to the fact that the Galaxy Z Trifold will not launch in France immediately, and Samsung apparently wants to use the local market as a testing ground for this new format.

However, this statement raises questions. How will this launch fit into the planned release date of the Galaxy S26 series in late January or early February 2026? The official launch of the Z Trifold may coincide with the announcement of the new series.

Strangely, this three-panel model will appear different from the upcoming Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, which are scheduled to release in mid-2026.

The rest won’t take much time. Until then, many people want to know when the Galaxy Z Trifold will be available for pre-release and how much you will have to pay to buy it.
