A strange Spotify bug that causes the app to crash continues to affect many users, more than two days after Spotify first reported and confirmed it.
We first reported the issue in a Spotify thread on Tuesday, November 18. Community page on current affairs. It started gathering hundreds of votes and comments. Interestingly, the issues were not limited to a single platform as iOS, Android and Mac users all reported a similar issue.
At first it seemed like the app crashes were related to listening to podcasts, as those posts had received the most votes (indicating that others were experiencing the same thing). However, recent reports suggest that the app “starts and closes in a fraction of a second” and has nothing to do with podcasts.
More Spotify issues can be reported here in the same thread titled “App crashes when starting a podcast.” Anyway, Spotify’s latest forum mod post says: “Our teams are aware that this issue still exists and are continuing to investigate.”
This is a change from Spotify’s statement two days ago, which said: “We are pleased to announce that this issue is now expected to be resolved.” This statement is always the last. Spotify status Count on X. I contacted Spotify for further comment on the issue and they told me there are no further updates at this time.
What can you do?
If you have this problem, the only official advice is to reinstall the Spotify app. Spotify says that “some users have found this to help resolve the issue,” but others say in the comments on the thread that this hasn’t helped either.
Reinstalling isn’t without its downsides: you’ll have to download all your downloaded music and podcasts for offline listening, and your settings will also be reset to default. However, your playlists, likes and more are retained as they are not stored locally (unlike downloaded music).
If you want to try the installation again, the process varies slightly depending on the platform. On Android, go to your phone Settings > Apps > select Spotify > tap Storage / Storage & Cache > go to Clear storage / Clear data > Clear cache. Then go back to the previous screen and Tap Remove.
On iOS instead Open the Spotify appIF Tap your profile photo top left. So go to Settings and privacy > Data storage and offline > StorageIF Click on Clear cache. Now go to your phone Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Spotify > Download Appsthen validate and Tap Remove app. Restart your iPhone and then go to the App Store to reinstall Spotify. Hopefully this helps, but based on recent forum posts this hasn’t worked for many people yet. One said today: “I tried a clean install on my iPhone (iOS 18.6.2) and the app still won’t load. The Spotify logo appears but then crashes.”
