- iPhone 18 may have a camera under the screen
- This is a feature that has been talked about for years.
- Apple is apparently currently testing the change.
All new iPhone launches are well booked for this year, which means we can turn our attention to 2026 and the iPhone 18, and the latest rumors suggest that this could be the phone if Apple finally decides to add an under-display selfie camera.
According to a known informant smart pikachu (Above Wccftech), Apple is at least testing under-display camera technology for iPhone 18 phones, which would mean the notch could shrink or disappear entirely.
If this sounds familiar, it may have been rumored for years that this is something coming to the iPhone. Perhaps 2026 will finally be the year when this actually happens, although nothing is certain yet.
Other sources have also predicted that an under-display Face ID camera will be on the table for iPhone 18 phones, giving the latest leak more credibility. We’ve also heard rumors that Apple is slowly working on a full-screen iPhone.
Apple will not be first
Other smartphone manufacturers have been experimenting with under-display cameras for years. You may remember the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which launched in 2021 and featured an under-display camera on the main 7.6-inch display.
However, it’s worth noting that the camera wasn’t particularly good and Samsung has ditched this technology, at least for now. All Galaxy phones released in 2025 will have conventional selfie cameras, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
While Apple hasn’t always been at the forefront of innovation in the industry, the company has tended to implement new technology better than most or all of its competitors. Touch ID and Face ID could be two examples, and the foldable iPhone could be another.
Informed sources have suggested that Apple could change the iPhone launch schedule next year, with the Pro models arriving in September and the standard iPhone 18 in March 2026. Stay tuned for when these phones are released.
