- Philips and AOC have introduced new 1000Hz gaming monitors
- They claim it’s “the world’s first 1000Hz gaming monitor, although AntGamer’s next monitor will arrive in 2026.”
- Both use the same panel with dual mode functionality
With CES 2026 on the horizon, we can expect the launch of several new PC hardware products and luckily, Philips and its sister brand AOC have already unveiled new monitors that can look downright extreme.
As reported by our friends at PC playerPhilips and AOC have introduced two gaming monitors with 1000Hz refresh rate: the Philips Evnia 27M2N5500XD and the AOC Agon Pro AGP277QK, which will use the same panel. Both support dual mode, allowing users to quickly switch between standard QHD and 500 Hz resolution and 1000 Hz HD.
Philips and AOC say this is the ‘world’s first 1000Hz gaming monitor’, but much will depend on which monitors go on sale first: the Evnia 27M2N5500XD, the Agon Pro AGP277QK and the AntGamer monitor (previously announced in September), all expected in 2026.
Aside from the 2000:1 contrast ratio, VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification and a 1ms GtG response time, we still don’t have full specs for the Philips and AOC displays. But with new hardware expected in January, it won’t be long before we have a full picture of these displays.
Many (myself included) may wonder who exactly these monitors are for, as 1000Hz seems excessive even for competitive gamers. It’s also worth noting that image quality drops significantly when using the dual-mode switch, going to HD (1920 x 1080) instead of QHD (2560 x 1440).
Analysis: Not to be a spoiler, but nobody needs a 1000Hz gaming monitor
With a refresh rate of 500 Hz, this is already bordering on overkill, as most users will not notice the difference between 144 Hz and 240 Hz. However, an increase to 1000 Hz since then seems completely unnecessary Almost No modern game can achieve more than 240 fps and it takes a lot to reach that frame rate.
I think it comes down to the cost of these two displays, and if you can get one of the current 27-inch dual-mode displays, I expect it will be very expensive.
I’m sure there will come a time when such high refresh rates will be relevant, but for now I think it’s overkill from Philips and AOC. Who knows. I might be wrong.
