This gift wrapping robot is really interesting.

  • Humanoids recreate iconic scenes from holiday movies.
  • HMND 01 tries to use robotic arms to wrap gifts
  • It is a humorous example of the possibilities and limitations of modern robotics technology.

Bot videos can be unintentionally funny. In some cases, their attempts at humor may turn you off. But there are actually some robotics comedy gems that come out from time to time.

android HMND 01 Alpha BipedThe robot called. company claim The game, which was created in just five months and can be played in just 48 hours, is back with a new holiday theme.

Most robot videos feature almost unbelievable displays of intelligence and dexterity, but in this video, the robotics team clearly had something different in mind. I love you really– Inspirational clips.

Inside, the impressive 5-foot-10-inch, nearly 200-pound robot acts like a store clerk, patiently waiting for the next customer. A young girl came and asked for a toy robot. HMND 01 has enough sensors (including RGB vision and touch vision) to hear women, and uses an NVIDIA backend for autonomy and output. So it’s no surprise that he can use his sensitive and dexterous hands to hold tiny robots.

But in the video, things take a familiar turn when the robot asks the woman if she wants to “wrap a gift.” When a woman asks for something simple, a robot labeled “Gift Wrapping Apprentice: 1 Month” delivers a very large acrylic box. Women worry that it’s too much, but the HMND01 somewhat echoes the old line: “It’s more than just a box.”

In fact, the robot is a replacement for Rowan Atkinson’s character as the salesman in the popular holiday film.

But when Atkinson takes too long wrapping the gifts, the stress of watching her husband play with the cat is replaced by some clumsy attempts by a robot to fill the box with trinkets and, above all, nuts and bolts (that’s it, nuts and bolts).

When the woman’s husband arrives and asks if their work is done, HMND01 tells, “Wait. Only one week left.”

It’s a beautiful and delightful tribute to the classic scene, but it’s also a reminder that these humanoid robots still need time to evolve. When we see them trying to copy our abilities, we may need to give them some time and suggest what is appropriate in their gift boxes.

The robot finally realizes that there is a mess, removes the large box and replaces it with the already packed robot.

What’s next for HMND? The humanoid uses Nvidia’s Isaac Lab, an open-source robotics training platform, to speed up and shorten the learning process. I have seen videos of them walking, moving from side to side, lifting delicate objects and being pushed without falling. He does all this, but all his actions are very slow and deliberate.

To date, the company does not position high-speed humanoids for consumers. Instead he had industrial ambitions, perhaps dreaming of working at Harrods.
