We will continue to work hard to improve ChatGPT every year until Christmas. Over the weekend, OpenAI launched a new set of character controls called Properties to address GPT-5’s oft-criticized lack of warmth.
In fact, it’s as if it directly solves the problem. hot You can make ChatGPT as convenient as possible by changing your settings.
Okay, that’s almost it. It would be nice to have sliders for attributes like Warmth and Enthusiasm, but each attribute would have three simple options: More, Default, or Less.
All new settings adapt Click or tap your profile name to access the menu. Features you can change through the new settings include enthusiasm, enthusiasm, titles, menus, and emojis.
So if you don’t want ChatGPT replies to appear in your feature list or emoticons, you know what to do. Just set it to low.
This is especially useful if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t want to see emojis in written responses outside of text messages. Me too.

I spent the weekend wondering how these new settings would affect the nature of ChatGPT, and I can report that they do exactly what they say they do. Changing settings immediately affects ChatGPT’s response. Control makes you look like a human resources representative or a super sexy girlfriend.
These four new options are actually meant to be used in conjunction with the more important option above them called Bass Style and Tone, which already exists. With this setting, you can choose between Professional, Friendly, Direct, Quirky, Skilled, Challenging, and Sarcastic.
So what if you showed your friendliness, warmth, and enthusiasm to the fullest and told ChatGPT that Christmas is just a few days away? This is what you get:

OpenAI still doesn’t fully understand the context. Sometimes I use ChatGPT for office tasks like data analysis, and other times I use it to kill time and see how conversations are going.
These new individual controls were a good first step, but I really needed flexibility. You can use sliders instead of presets and set different characters for each chat.
However, the latest results from Code Red posted by Sam Altman on ChatGPT are the clearest sign yet that OpenAI is doing something important that will help it maintain its lead over the rising Gemini. ChatGPT now not only focuses on how you say it, but also on what you say. Giving users control over its tone makes ChatGPT feel less like a robot and more like a companion you can truly live with.
