Motorola Edge (2024): New Features and Specs

66

Motorola has unveiled its latest mid-range smartphone, the Edge (2024). This device closely resembles last year’s model but introduces several key changes.

One significant difference is the chipset. Instead of MediaTek hardware, it features a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC. Benchmark tests indicate the new chip offers similar performance to the 2023 version, rather than an outright upgrade.

This change allows Motorola to price the Edge (2024) at $550, which is $50 less than the previous model still priced at $600.

The Edge (2024) includes RAM Boost for those needing extra power. This feature converts unused storage in the 256GB drive into virtual RAM. While it comes with 8GB of memory, this boost is useful for streaming movies or playing games.

The phone also boasts a larger 5,000mAh battery, lasting up to 36 hours on a single charge. Additionally, it supports 68W TurboPower fast charge, enabling a 50 percent charge in just 15 minutes.

Regarding design, the Edge (2024) looks similar to the 2023 model, with one notable change. It now has a Quick Button, which can be customized to launch specific apps or functions like Google Maps, Gmail, or messaging.

Due to this new feature, the dimensions have slightly increased to 159.63 x 71.99 x 8.09 mm (6.28 x 2.83 x 0.3 inches).

Another unique feature is the 50 MP rear camera equipped with a Sony LYTIA 700C image sensor. Motorola claims this sensor enhances light absorption, producing highly detailed images. The camera also benefits from OIS (optical image stabilization) and Adaptive Stabilization, ensuring clear photos by reducing hand motion. Accompanying this are a 13MP ultra wide-angle lens and a 32MP selfie camera.

The Edge (2024) retains several features from its predecessor. It continues to sport a 6.6-inch pOLED Endless Edge Display, offering Full HD Plus (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) resolution at a 144Hz refresh rate. It also includes stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support for immersive audio.

The Motorola Edge (2024) will be available from June 20 for $550. It will be sold unlocked, allowing users to choose their preferred carrier. Prospective buyers can sign up for notifications about its availability. The device will also launch in Canada in the coming months.
