Tencent Developing Mobile Version of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring

Tencent reportedly works on a mobile version of Elden Ring, a popular game by FromSoftware. The Chinese company acquired licensing rights in 2022 and is slowly progressing with a team of about a dozen people. They aim to release it as a free-to-play title with in-app purchases, akin to Genshin Impact.

Details on the in-app purchases remain undisclosed, but it could involve an in-game currency system similar to Genshin Impact’s digital store.

However, this approach contrasts with Elden Ring’s traditional model of full access upon purchase, posing a challenge.

Tencent and FromSoftware haven’t commented on the report or confirmed the mobile port of Elden Ring.

Elden Ring is among Tencent’s licensed IPs for mobile games, alongside successes like PUBG: Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile.

Recently, Tencent announced the cancellation of its Nier mobile game after nearly two years of development.

FromSoftware announced a DLC expansion named Shadow of the Erdtree in February 2023, but there’s still no release date despite ongoing development.

Speculation arose from an update to Elden Ring’s Steam page last month, hinting at a DLC launch, but no official announcement has been made yet.
