The Samsung Galaxy S24 could have a next-generation screen for the iPhone 16

While we don’t expect to see the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 range until early 2024, a new report suggests we could see the debut of a next-generation display on the company’s next line of flagship phones before the launch. technology also reaches the mainstream. expected Apple iPhone 16 series.

We’ve already heard several specific details about the viewing experience the upcoming (supposed) trio of Galaxy S-series phones will offer, but a new report from the South Korean digital outlet Chosun He says industry insiders are confident the S24 range will be the first of the company’s phones to feature M13 OLED displays.

The “M” in “M13” refers to the quality of materials used in the OLED panel and the number to the technology generation. More advanced materials (as well as their configuration within the panel and whether or not a polarizer is used) help improve transmission efficiency (i.e. screen output efficiency) and reduce power consumption.

The 2022 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 (along with this year’s Fold 5 and Flip 5 models) and Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro Max use M12 OLED panels made by Samsung Display, while surprisingly (according to Dylan Raga by XDA Developers), this year’s Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra sports a modified M11 panel that’s more efficient than the display used by the 14 Pro Max.

Be that as it may, the Chosun report claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be the most likely candidate for an M13 panel, but the highly anticipated Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ could also benefit from this new display technology, as long as the scale of mass production keep growing enough.

The report also expects the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to use M12 panels, while M13 technology destined for the Galaxy S24 series is unlikely to debut on Apple phones until the iPhone 16 line arrives next year, in 2024. While this could give Samsung an advantage in screen energy efficiency over Apple, iPhones have become incredibly energy efficient by other means, meaning the battle for better battery life between Apple’s flagships and Samsung will continue to be very tight.

And even more memory

In addition to more advanced display technology, this latest report also suggests that we could finally see an increase in the initial amounts of RAM included in each series.

Samsung established an 8GB RAM baseline in its devices already in the Galaxy S20 series, with the S20 and S20+, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra was available with 12GB RAM (or 16GB in the case of the 512-storage model). GB).

Now, however, that minimum could be increased to 12GB for the Galaxy S24 and 16GB for the S24 Ultra. Samsung’s current flagships already use the fastest and most efficient memory and storage types on the mobile market (LPDDR5x and UFS 4.0, respectively), so this advancement only solidifies its leadership, adding even more performance headroom to a lineage of flagships. which were already very capable as well as being some of the best phones on the market.
