Lg G4 Vs Samsung S95d: Picture Quality

LG Display, the panel-making division of LG, claims that the next-gen MLA (Micro Lens Array) OLED panel in the LG G4 could achieve a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.

Our initial impressions of the LG G4’s display from a brief demo described it as “bright” and “punchy,” with images exhibiting a dynamic quality expected from a premium TV.

The combination of a brighter panel and a new processor enables a Max Peak Highlighter feature in the LG G4, enhancing brightness by up to 150% compared to standard OLEDs like the LG B4, particularly for HDR highlights.

The new processor in the LG G4 also introduces an AI Picture Pro mode with features that define objects on the screen better and analyze pictures to enhance colors based on the director’s vision.

On the other hand, the Samsung S95D will feature a 3rd-Gen QD-OLED panel. During a Samsung S95D demo, we noted the impressive anti-reflection screen coating, although it might not match the anti-reflection tech found in microlens array OLED panels like the LG G4.

Expectations for improved brightness in the S95D were evident during the demo, especially in scenes with high contrast. Samsung claims that the 2024 QD-OLEDs will be 20% brighter than their 2023 counterparts, with the S95D potentially reaching 1,600 nits of peak brightness in a 10% HDR window, compared to the 1,400 nits of the S95C.

Lg G4 Vs Samsung S95d: Sound Quality

Critics noted LG G3’s sound quality as its weak point, recommending top-tier soundbars for optimal experience.

The upcoming LG G4, equipped with the Alpha 11 AI Processor, promises virtual 11.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos sound, a significant upgrade from G3’s 9.1.2 channels. It also introduces a new voice remastering feature for enhanced dialogue clarity. Paired with premium soundbars, the G4 supports wireless lossless Dolby Atmos and DTS audio output.

In contrast, the Samsung S95C outperformed the LG G3 in sound quality. However, details about the sound capabilities of the Samsung S95D remain undisclosed. Expectations suggest maintaining the same 4.2.2 channel speaker configuration as its predecessor. This aligns with the praised “engaging and cinematic” sound described in the S95C review.

LG G4 vs Samsung S95D: Specs, Features & Comparison

Lg g4 vs samsung s95d: verdict

The LG G3 stood as a nearly flawless TV in our evaluation. If the LG G4 integrates enhancements in performance, picture quality, and usability, it could potentially claim the title of one of the best TVs of 2024, especially with the inclusion of a stand—a feature lacking in its predecessor.

Nevertheless, the competition remains fierce, both from other brands and within LG’s product lineup. While the LG C4 may offer a slight downgrade compared to the G4, it presents numerous improvements over the previous C3 model, making it a compelling option for most consumers unless they specifically require the high-end performance of the G4.

However, this doesn’t automatically signify that the LG G4 will outshine the Samsung S95D. Its predecessor, the Samsung S95C, was also hailed as one of the top TVs of 2023, serving as our top choice for premium OLED displays. A hands-on experience with the new Samsung model is imperative to ascertain its standing, but it’s conceivable that it could emerge as our premier high-end option for the upcoming year.
